Enjoy it while you can
« on: October 16, 2017, 09:07:52 am »
I found this amazing anecdote from a NYT article on Luhnow/Astros. Referring to 2012

Now Luhnow’s challenge is sustaining a winner, and finding a way to beat a system that helped him succeed. In that 2012 season, the five worst teams were the Astros, the Cubs, the Colorado Rockies, the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians. All made the playoffs this year. In the 2012 World Series, the San Francisco Giants played the Detroit Tigers. This season, they were the worst teams in the majors.

Here is the article if interested  https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/15/sports/baseball/houston-astros-alcs.html

yep. I am enjoying it.

I am aware that your favorite team can get punked in the Division Series by the Braves whenever they avoid a September collapse.
I am aware that your favorite team  can fight like hell to make it to the World Series and get swept.
I am aware that a man can own a professional baseball franchise and not understand the role of the farm system in creating a competitive franchise.
I am aware that MLBcan force your team into a new league, severing it from the heart of its tradition and history.
I am aware that trades, free agency, and injuries can make a bright future go dark.

The plan that brought you here won't keep you here. I trust that the front office people are changing the way they are playing the game to adapt to the very different situation they were in when they started. Really doubt with the current owner and GM will need to do the scorched earth that they had to do five years ago. They will trade popular players. Not everyone named Keuchel, Correa, or Altuve will retire wearing an Astros uniform. I am fine with that. They can be like Roy Oswalt and Lance Bekman and sign a one day contract when they retire. So yeah, there will be rebuilding years, but hopefully never an noncompetitive fucking decade.

But the Astros time is now. So glad I am alive to see this. And I am enjoying the hell out of this. Hope you are too.
Where the fuck is Toro?

I am certainly glad to be alive and seeing this. Hope this organization bucks the trend and has a long run. Just thought the info was fascinating.
