Manager/Coaching Assignments 2017
« on: January 10, 2017, 05:02:25 pm »
Arguably the biggest change is Morgan Ensberg taking the reins as the V-Cats manager. He had been minor league mindset coach.

Former V-Cats manager Lamarr Rogers doesn't appear to have been retained. He spent 2 years in the organization after having spent the previous 16 years in indy ball. Also apparently ousted was former Lancaster manager Ramon Vazquez. Omar Lopez effectively replaces him at Buies Creek after having managed QC in 2016 and Lancaster in 2015.

Russ Steinhorn moves up to take over at QC after having managed the DSL Blues squad last year. Ex-org player and coach Wlad Sutil manages for the first time at the GCL club. He replaces Marty Malloy, who spent 3 years managing the GCL team before moving on this offseason to take a job helming the Lakewood BlueClaws in the Sally for the Phillies.

Josh Bonifay previously this offseason was named the Texas Rangers' major league field coordinator. His replacement as the manager at Greeneville is Danny Ortega (previously a coach in the DSL).

No managerial changes at Fresno and CC.

I just posted that in the Talk Zone.  I like Ensberg.

Keep an eye on Vlad Sutil down in GCL.  He is an impressive individual.

Also the fact the CC still is on the staff in Gville is great.  Not many orgs have a team legend on the staff of a short season team year after year.  He has a great deal of impact on the young players.

Also apparently ousted was former Lancaster manager Ramon Vazquez.

Actually Vazquez moved on to bigger and better things--today the former MLBer was named to the Padres major league coaching staff where he'll work with infielders.

This is the key sentence to me right here:

Quote
Luhnow said he expects Mejdal to "come back with a lot of interesting thoughts and ideas about how we might do things better, whether it's have better spreads for the players or better travel - things that make their life easier that maybe we're not thinking about that we could help them with.

I expect there will be some experimentation going on.  I am hoping the Astros are also thinking about getting in front of the curve on how they treat their human resources in the minors.

This.
Is the Problem.
Humans do not think of themselves as resources.

No kidding. They're assets.

'Our people are our greatest assets' sounds like a catchy phrase, someone should use it.
