Well that didn't take long. First pitch meatball to Pujols makes it 2-0 in the first

Running Fiers out there is criminal negligence.

If bat catching was a sport, that guy would be in the starting line up.

He is the starting lineup.  I've never seen a bat actually caught before.

Shit! God damn!  It's 2 - 0 in favor of the Angels, top of the sixth. It is time for the Astros to quit fucking around already.

Over time have the Astros had a greater nemesis than Pujols? And if so who would it be?

Maybe the Braves pitching staff in the 90s?

Although the inability to escape Pujols even after being exiled to the AL does make him a compelling candidate.

Teo was visibly frustrated by the hold, he knew he could have scored.

They were not going to throw home. The tying run would have gone to second.  Crap.

As frustrating as that was, the complete lack of offense against Ricky FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT Nelasco was worse. Good lord, way to make a scrub look like Cy fucking Young.

"What team do you play for?  Well I was just wondering why you would throw home when we've got a 2-run lead.  You let the tying run get on second base and we lost the lead because of you.  Start using your head...it's that lump three feet above your ass" - Jimmy Dugan.

There's actually some good baseball strategy in that movie.

Jimmy Dugan and Lou Brown are a pretty close call for best manager in a movie.

Not even close. I remember Marichal would shut them down every time but that lasted less than ten years. Claude Osteen used to be an automatic loss so Houston traded for him and he couldn't do squat when he got here.

Compared to his career and to other teams, he hasn't destroyed the Stros.  I still hate him though.

Memorable moments and clutch situations and such notwithstanding, but we handled him better than about 2/3 of the teams in MLB.  Ask the Pirates, Reds, Brewers or Cubs what they think about him.

The correct answer is Bud fucking Selig, or whoever decided to trade away Finley, Cammy and Lofton.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Another SPECtacular move, acquiring a nearly 35-year old pitcher for a player (Jimmy Wynn) who still had a few good years left in him.

Yes, thanks Spec. BTW if you look at his Wikipedia page there is this cryptic  notation;

To his credit, Richardson recognized César Cedeño as a potential superstar, but the Astros spent his tenure and several years after it mired in mediocrity. Sabermetric research shows that the Astros would likely have been the best team in the National League throughout much of the 1970s. Instead, the team would not appear in the playoffs until 1980.
