Jake Peavy

I just watched the lowly Cincinnati Reds launch four longballs against Jake Peavy in six innings. Peavy is now 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA. He looks just about done to me. Dan Straily tossed a quality start for the W.

Peavy looked done to me two years ago. He was terrible in the playoffs/WS. I can't believe they have held on to him.

Matt Cain goes tonight for the Jints, and he's 0-3 7.00. Just think, two-fifths of their starting rotation are Jake Peavy and Matt Cain. Five years ago, that would have been an invincible duo. Today, both are pinball machines. Watch Cain have a big night tonight.

They hammered Cain last night, who struck out no one in his four innings of work en route to a 17-7 loss. I bet that they resign Lincecum to replace either Cain or Peavy.

The sustained career excellence for guys like Ryan, Clemens, Glavine, Smoltz, etc... seems to be a thing of the past. Increasingly, 2-3 years of excellence seems to be followed by diminished capability by big guns like Peavy or Lincecum. I wonder if some of that has to do with analytics enhancing the ability of hitters to adjust towards pitcher weaknesses more quickly.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Peavy (1-3 9.00) could be starting his last big league game tonight against Toronto, which is expected to tee off on him in SFO.

He and Roy O. were contemporaries I believe.
