Comebacker to the mound, easy grounder to drawn in Valbuena on the shift, and a strikout.

After one half of an inning, 0 - 0.   McHugh looking good so far..

Altuve lines the first pitch which Pedroia snags for the first out.
Tucker takes it full and takes it deep to center for a HOME RUN!
CC takes the first pitch for a strike as he is wont to do..  and strikes out swinging on a slider for the second out.
Valbuena has the shift against him..  watches two strikes go by on the inside.. fouls a few off.. and strikes out swinging.

1-0 Good Guys after 1

When Tucker first hit that pitch I thought it was going to be a gapper in LCF, but it just kept going until it whacked off the wall below the Conoco pump.

Ortiz leads off the top of the second..   wow.. that curve sure looked good..    grounds to Altuve in short right field for the first out.

Ramirez.. Castro and McHugh not yet on the same page.. and Hanley draws the walk.

Brownie and Ashby talking up Cole Hamels -- apparently the Phils are asking quite a bit for him

De Aza lines the first pitch to right and Rasmus dives and snags it just before it hits the ground.   2 outs

Victorino flies out to left.   3 outs.

going to the bottom of the 2nd.. Astros lead 1-0.

He certainly has the power..  pretty sweet swing from the left side too.

I would expect somebody with Marisnick's skill profile to be a better bunter than he is.

Gattis leads off the 2nd..   full count and called 2nd strike on a pitch off the plate but close.. grounds to Napoli at first for the first out.

Rasmus singles to right on a curve ball..

With Singleton at the dish, the pitcher Kelly throws it in the dirt and the catcher throws it into center.   Rasmus ends up on 3rd.

Singleton takes a four pitch walk.

Marisnick attempts to bunt the first pitch, pops it up to Napoli in foul territory.  2nd out

Castro needs to get Colby home..  and is punched out watching the 3rd strike go by.

Still 1-0 after 2

Napoli takes the first pitch to deep right center and Jake tracks it down.  1 out.

Catcher Swihart grounds to Jose for the second out.

Pedroia Swings at the 3rd strike in the dirt and Castro throws to first for the 3rd out.

A quick 1-2-3 inning for McHugh

1-0 Astros.

Jose Altuve leads off the bottom of the 3rd..   and is plunked doing his best Craig Biggio impression.    Can't feel good.

Preston pops it up behind 3rd for the first out

Carlos up.   Pops it up to Pedroia for the second out

Valbuena at the plate... Altuve thrown out trying to steal second.   3 outs.

1-0 Astros.

Nice swing by Singleton, too. Unfortunately he hit it too hard, and directly at the Right Fielder.

Brock Holt leads off the top of the 4th.   And hits a fly ball to Preston in left.  1 out.

Ramirez golfs a tight curve lightly to Altuve near 2nd and Jose throws him out.   2 out.

Ortiz  with a quick two strikes.. and lines one down the first base line.. singleton tosses to McHugh for the 3rd out

McHugh with 44 pitches through 4

Nice work to get out of that inning.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Ramirez to lead off the top of the fifth and singles through the left side.

De Aza up.. McHugh throws one high and outside which Castro doesn't corral, Ramirez down to 2nd.  E2.
and McHugh tries to throw a curve which plunks De Aza on the foot.    Men on 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

Victorino bunts.. goes foul.   McHugh not getting that curve called.  Shane pops it up to Marisnick in shallow center.  1 out.

Napoli up..  and grounds into the old 5-4-3 double play!   3 outs.

1-0 Astros.

Marisnick leads off the bottom of the 5th.   Swings weakly at a fastball for strike 2.   and is called out watching strike 3 go by.

Castro to see if he can hit better than he can field.    swings through strike 3.  2nd out

I note I missed Gattis' home run.  it's 2-0 Astros.

Jose Altuve to see if he can get a pitch to hit.    pops one into right which bounces off of Bogaerts glove for a single..

Tucker  with 2 outs and 1 on.    And hits a HOME RUN to right field..  10 rows up - He is strong..   2 runs in...

4-0 Astros with 2 outs

Carlos trying to get in on this party...   lines one into center for a single on a 3-2 count.   Turned around a 97 mph fastball and crushed it

Valbuena trying to extend the inning    and strikes out swinging ..3rd out

4-0 Astros after 5

Swihart hits a soft liner to center for a single..

Pedroia hits the right-center gap for a double scoring Swihart..

4-1 Astros.. no one out.

Holt lines one to right field..   Kinda looking like an Oswalt Inning..

Men on first and 3rd, no outs

McHugh only with 65 pitches..  Not laboring at all..

Bogaerts  dumps one into right field scoring Pedroia

4-2 Astros,   Men on 1st and 2nd no outs.     Strom out to see what's going on.   What's going on is 3rd time through the order.

Ortiz pop it up to Altuve in short right.. 1 out

Good grief Castro!   Passed ball that was just poor.    double play out of possibility now

Ramirez strikes out on third strike curve ball in the dirt.  2 outs.  McHugh cleans up the mess.

De Aza  pops it up to Tucker in left.    3 outs.

4-2 Astros after 6..   Nice work by McHugh to get out of that..

Gattis skies one on the infield.. Napoli gloves it.

Kelly exits ... for Robbie Ross Jr.   3.34 era  left hander..  low arm angle is pretty tough for left hand hitters

Colby Rasums first to face him... strikes out swinging on a slider..  2 out.

Singleton swings and hits it high off the side of the Crawford Boxes for a double.

Marisnick grounds out to short for teh 3rd out.

4-2 Astros after 6

Because he aggressively fields bunts?

Victorino leads off the top of the 7th and cues one down the first base line for a single.

Napoli up..  whacks one to left.. station to station.. 1st and 2nd with no outs.

Swihart shows bunt and takes a ball ,  swings a bunt through.. Castros throws down to second and almost nips Victorino.  And bunts it up to McHugh who throws to third for the first out.

Pedroia pops it up behind the plate.. Castro tracks it down and does glove it.  2 outs.

Holt.. Not sure what was wrong with that 1-2 pitch..   Gets him on a curve.   3 outs!

4-2 after the top half the 7th.

Alexi Ogando pitching now for the Sox..

Castro leads off the bottom of the 7th.   2 quick strikes, extending the inning with foul balls...  And lines one to right which drops.. single for Jason..

Altuve watches the first two pitches go by for strikes..  and bounces one back to Ogando who throws wide to 2nd and everyone is safe!   Men on 1st and 2nd, no outs.

Preston Tucker up to strike fear in Ogando..    Tucker bounces one to first, Napoli throws to second and back to first for a double play.    Hinch challenges...     and the call is safe!    1 out.  Tucker on first, Castro on 3rd for the phenom.

Carlos looking for a pitch to crush..  hits into a tailor made double play 6-4-3..   3 outs.

I have this feeling PT is going to be part of a deal for a pitcher.

Me too

Pat Neshek in to pitch the 8th...

Bogaerts to lead off the top of the 8th..  Quickly 0-2..  and 3 pitches for 3 strikes.   1 out.

Ortiz now 1-2.   Neshek is a quick worker.. me likey.   Of course when I say that he slows it down.    count to 3-2.  3rd ball got a rise out of the crowd..   walks him..

Ramirez  Pops it up to right field.. Correa out to glove it.   2 outs

De Aza swings through the third strike.. have a seat.   3 outs.

4-2 Houston.

Gonzalez is probably not thrilled to see this guy throwing the ball in the dirt.

Lefty Tommy Layne is the 4th pitcher of the night for the BoSox.

Marwin makes an appearance for Valbuena...  Wearing a left ankle brace  finally grounds to first for the first out.

Gattis swings at junk... ball hits the dirt and Swihart throws him out at first.  2 outs

Rasmus.. Grounds meekly to 2nd.. 3 out

Heading to the 9th inning, Astros lead 4-2

Gregerson on to close the door.

Victorino to lead off the ninth.    Grounds to Marwin at 3rd who throws him out.. 1 out.

Napoli grounds back to Luke who throws him out.  2 out.

Swihart with the final chance..    Down to his final strike..   Fly ball to Rasmus in right who squeezes it for the win!

Astros win 4-2  McHugh was McHuge.

Great job by McHugh. It's been really encouraging the way he's pitched for the past month or so.

I am prone to repeating myself when I talk about the starting starting pitcher getting off to a good start when he is starting a game but I really do know how to count... And add.
