Some comments from the boss man via JDJO:

One year after inviting 65 players to camp, the Astros currently have 56 players scheduled to attend spring training. That tally will likely increase, but Luhnow doesn’t expect to have more than 60 players in camp this year. “For the most part guys that we thought that had an outside chance or decent chance to be in the big leagues this year, we wanted our coaches to see them.”

From a separate story:

“There’s a couple of players – Rio Ruiz and Josh Hader – that had outstanding years last year that both merited consideration and were considered,” GM Jeff Luhnow said. “We wanted to keep the camp as lean and productive as possible. Both of them having been mostly at High-A although Hader went to Corpus, we don’t necessarily see those guys making the big leagues this year. But those are two guys that will certainly be in camp next year.”

Add today's acquiree RHP James Hoyt to the list of NRIs (per various and sundry tweets).

Has there been any news about Japhet Amador?  I thought I would see him on this list.

Also, Hoyt has some pretty impressive strikeout numbers.

The Astros sold the rights of Japhet Amador back to Mexico City of the Mexican League, from whence they signed him (and Double-A prospect Leonardo Heras) in August 2013.

Shirley was someone Astros definitely considered bringing to camp. Casualty of purposeful paring they did this year vs. last you could say.
