Hoes has really improved the left field spot. Good fielding and some offensive contribution surely beats the alternative.

Smith in for the Tigers...

Corporan singles to LF, Hoes to 3B, Villar to 2B.

Presley up with one out and ducks on the pond...if he can avoid a double play, Altuve, who's 2 fer 2, is on deck..but alas....

Presley grounds to SS, who throws home to get Hoes, and Villar rounds the bag too far at 3B to complete the ol' 6-2-5 twin killing.

Presley, in two at bats, is now responsible for 4 of the Astros 12 outs and 4 LOB.

Astros get 1, however...4-1Astros.

No mention of how the 4U-3 DP was hit where the 2B wouldn't have been playing, except with the shift on?

They were playing regular double play positioning, no shift...ball was hit up the middle, not particularly hard, a little to the 1B side of the bag at 2B.  Altuve fielded it a step behind the bag, stepped on 2B and threw on to 1B.    Happy?

Altuve was playing right behind the 2B bag. Definitely took away a hit compared to normal DP depth, unless Bill Mazeroski is your 2B.

Suarez with a Texas Leaguer into LF for a single

Hunter lines out to 3B, inning over...

Nice job to Feldman to clean that inning up.  Astros up 4-2

No he wasn't.  He was in normal DP depth.  Almost any Major League second baseman makes that play.

Then I stand corrected. I saw the ball get by Feldman, said "shit!" because it looked like a sure hit to me, then saw Altuve right behind the bag, waiting (not running and back-handing it). My bad.

In general, though, I think HH is a bit too eager to dump on the shift the times that it backfires.

He didn't have to backhand it because it wasn't hit very hard.  He still had to range a fair amount to his right.

And I don't like the shift most of the time, even when it works.

Very good.  You know he was anxious, trying to drive those runs in.  He laid off some pitcher's pitches.

It looked like the sequence to Jackson was especially nasty ... not a real DD fan, but he had both those guys guessing.

Villar grounds into 6-4-3 double play, inning over.

Still 5-2.

T8:

Veras takes the pill

Hunter bunts...Dominguez makes an outstanding play to nail Hunter
Cabrera pops out to SS...0 fer 13 in this series
V Martinez draws a 2-out walk
JD Martinez singles to LF, the other Martinez to 2B...tying run to the plate
Strom out to talk to Veras...
Castellanos triples to LF...Villar cuts the throw, but then stands there holding it, refusing to throw to 3B, where Castellanos would have been dead meat.  5-4...tying run at 3B.

That'll be all for Veras

Well, what this game proves is that you should always save your lefty relievers to come in in tough situations and strike out righty hitters.

Villar will take the criticism, but it is likely a result of poor communication.

Sipp cleans it all up. Get some insurance.

Blaine Hardy in for Brad's club...

Corporan leads off with a double!...need an insurance run here boys...
Marwin in t run for Corporan
Presley sac bunt...out 1-4, Marwin to 3B with one out
Altuve swings on 3-0...on ball four...pops out to shallow LF...two out
Springer intentionally walked again
Singleton with two on, two out...singles to CF...Marwin scores!
Guzman grounds out 1-3, but the Astros pick up an insurance run.

He stopped for awhile, but before he was injured he was back to being FIELDS!  I figure there's some room in the bullpen for more exclamation point.

I totally forgot to add to the "of note" section that Miggy Cabrera went for 0-for-the series. Now THAT's an historical event. I believe V-Mart had just one hit, himself.
