The loss of his father won’t stop Astros pitcher Scott Feldman from pitching on Friday.

Marshall Feldman, 70, passed away this week, Scott Feldman wrote to the Chronicle on Thursday. A former FBI agent, Marshall Feldman had battled brain cancer since 2006.

Scott did not make the three-day trip to Toronto this week with the rest of the Astros so that he could be with his father.

Friday is Scott’s regularly scheduled day in the rotation, and he’s set to pitch in Arlington in the opener of a three-game series against the team that drafted him, the Rangers.

“He would be (ticked) if I missed a start,” Scott wrote of his father.

Scott is making an extraordinary effort to make the start. He will leave the Astros again afterward to attend services in California. The Feldman family requested privacy.

I like the guy so far.

Sounds like a helluva good family. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Feldman family.
 I'm glad he's an Astro

I agree. Feldman pitched last night to honor his father's memory, which is commendable. Too often, we get all caught up in grief and forget to celebrate the life of the deceased, particularly if it was a life well lived, as appeared to have been the case for Mr. Feldman. RIP.

Part of the reason Feldman is here is to be an example for the younger pitchers. He wears that mantle well.

You make a great point. In my experience, it is harder for pitchers to be team leaders. That's not to say that it can't happen, because it can. However, the leader often needs to be an every day player.
