Braves postseason

Wow... So we all know about the Braves' success -- made 17 of the last 22 postseasons, Team of the 1990s, blah blah blah.

But here's one for you. The last time Atlanta won a postseason series? The 2001 Division Series (vs. Houston, of course).

Since then:
Lost 2001 NLCS 4-1 to Arizona
Lost 2002 NLDS 3-2 to SF
Lost 2003 NLDS 3-2 to Chicago (!!)
Lost 2004 NLDS 3-2 to Houston
Lost 2005 NLDS 3-1 to Houston
Lost 2010 NLDS 3-1 to SF
Lost 2012 NLWC 1-0 to StL
Lost 2013 NLDS 3-1 to LA

People threw those kind of stats thrown around during the stretch where Houston was basically the 2nd or 3rd best team in BB over a span of ten years or so (sorry I do not know the exact numbers, but I recall the aformentioned statement being in some way true).  Seems like I got all pissy on a number of occassions when having to defend the success of the team during a span where they were pretty freaking good.  That being said, I am not going to belittle the success of that organization in the least...looks pretty good from where we are currently sitting.

No shit.  I'd love for the Astros to have the success the Braves have had over the last 20 years.

Despite their success, that's got to be a painful stat.

So is

2011:  56-106
2012:  55-107
2013:  51-111

I agree. And Braves fans still don't really support their club. It's mind-boggling.

I don't know if anyone has figured out the art of building a team to win a World Series. The automatic answer is probably "Great Pitching," but then you look at the Tigers this year, or the Braves for most of the past 23 years, or the Astros in 2005, and it's apparent that Great Pitching isn't quite as important as it seems. Or not as foolproof, at least. Nor is Great Hitting, which can be negated by one or two guys being injured or slumping, ala Miguel Cabrera this year, ARod in 2004 most years, etc. I think it just really depends a lot on luck, and hot streaks. And the Braves have had shitty luck.

In the future, someone will look back and try to figure out how in the hell the 2010-2012 Giants won two WS in three years.

I think it was magic.

But the plan starts after we bottom out, have we hit rock bottom yet?
