Good god, that's a horrific defense (I'm making assumptions about Krauss, who I haven't seen in the field). Lyles better pitch for the strikeout, or somehow make every batter hit a fly ball to CF. I mean, seriously?

Personally, I'm sick of Brownie always referring to Zobrist as a former Astros farmhand. I hate being reminded of that one who got away.

HPU's strike zone today has been funky thus far. I've seen several strikes called balls and a few balls called strikes. He's been very inconsistent.

Pena missed the first pitch from Archer. It was a mistake down in the wheelhouse, but he swung over it.

What's everyone doing today? I grilled earlier and am going to the Mudhens' game after this one is over.

Smoking some baby backs in the backyard. Going to listen to a few bands and see some fireworks later at Apogee Stadium with friends from the university. Grumbling because, yet again, I can't turn on my television and see the Astros game.

The offspring are washing our 1977 Ford pick-em-up in the driveway as I type. After, I'm taking Big 'Un to an empty parking lot and giving him a driving lesson in it. He starts driver's ed after we return from family vacation.

Sobering thought: Big 'Un was in 3rd grade when I started posting at this site. If I'm remembering my time frame correctly. *sigh*

Well, now that you mention it, I did mean JD, but the fact that Carter couldn't make it to 2nd before the throw isn't a very strong recommendation for him either. They would both lose to a turtle.

Fields stays out to toss the eleventh frame. I've got today's recap. Anything that I should cover other than Cedeno's shitty decision not to try for two, Wallace's two long balls and a good outing out of Lyles?

On the radio it sounded like there was an opportunity to send somebody home from third on a base hit, but they were held at third. Don't know how realistic that opportunity was.

The home plate ump has been buying drugs from Runge. Wright struck this guy out only for them to score on the next pitch.

Yeah, it's a bummer. He showed such a nice LH swing in '11, great speed, athleticism, strong arm, a little swagger. His only negative was the error-prone defense and poor decision-making, both in terms of what pitches to swing at and what to do in the field.

It looked like just a little bit of improvement on the weak areas would have made him a decent MLB player, while significant improvements could've made him an All-Star perhaps. Instead, he has gone backwards. Now he just looks like a quintessential 4-A player.

He really seems to have no instincts for the game. Late jumps, silly decisions, etc. It's too bad, because he is a good athlete.
