No discussion of The Slide?

Dirty, dirty play by Holiday.

Fuck the Jakes.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

He goes all the way over the bag.  No attempt to hit it.

I don't think it was dirty, as in it being intentional, I don't think Holliday is that kind of player.  But it was definitely too late, and I think interference should have been called.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Exactly. It's what used to be called, "NL ball."

Tackling a guy by his facemask is "good old fashioned" football too, that doesn't mean that more recent rules put in place to keep a guy from getting seriously injured should be ignored.

...unless you're the Packers, in which case you can rip off the helmet of JJ Watt by grabbing the grill as he blows by you, while your QB safely throws a bomb downfield.

I didn't say that I agreed with the move by Holiday. I don't and think that his throwback-style play has to be put into current context. However, it did look like good old-fashioned baseball. Much of what used to pass for good old-fashioned baseball has been superceded by baseball lite.
