Fucking Cubs

They're at it again: they don't like the way the Nationals are clubbing their sorry pitching, so they've decided that the way to fix that problem is to start throwing at guys. What a chickenshit organization.

Harper, naturally. He hit two homers yesterday, including an upper-deck laser beam, and he turned a double into a triple today, and then scored from third when the pitcher was a little too non-chalant going to first on a come-backer. As far as I could tell, Harper did nothing untoward. He didn't stand and admire those homers, and went around the bases pretty damn fast.

Was talking to a Cubs fan a few minutes ago and he said that Harper was hot dogging is why they threw at him. Hustling against their nonchalant lazy play is hot dogging, apparently. FTC

Word is...Harper's new thing is to sprint around the bases as fast as he can.  Which is just as bad as standing and admiring your drive or walking around.  No reason to throw at the guy, but he's being a first class prick.

You might want to find a new place to get your “word”.  He runs fast when it is necessary:

Every player should run fast when they hit it hard, just in case it doesn't make it out.  Anyone not sprinting is hot dogging, IMHO.

That is taking it a bit too far, I think.  A guy goes upper deck, he knows it when the ball leaves the bat.  In most cases, you are correct, though.

He should still be running fast.  It's a home run, not a home jog.  Lollygagging around the bases is purely to allow the player to milk the moment - which is bush.

Off subject (baseball wise), but I had that happen to me at State my Junior year...in a playoff no less!!  After my drive off #2 at Morris Williams in Austin, had about 250 up the hill for my second shot...hit a great 3 wood and about 20 yards off the clubface the ball DESTROYS a bird - feathers fucking everywhere.  Had about 190 left for my 3rd.  Made Par, lost playoff.

I stand corrected.

The Cubs were pissed about LaRoach swinging on 3-0 when the Nats were up 7-2 in the 5th.  This after a walk/steal and single/steal.  Typical Nats aggressiveness. 5th is not that late in the game that you start laying off.  Heck, the Nats lost to the Braves 11-10 earlier in the summer after leading 9-0.  Johnson said it best:
"If they want to quit competing and forfeit, then fine, but we are going to keep competing," Johnson said. "I don't know why they are getting on [Werth] swinging 3-0. [Anthony Rizzo hit a home run on a 3-0 pitch] in the first inning. What is the difference with the bases loaded in the fifth when we have a five-run lead and with two outs?"

Sveum's comment about the series was priceless for Cubs-haters:
"It's probably one of the biggest butt-whoopings I've ever gotten in my career, as a coach or player," Sveum said of the series. "I don't remember getting manhandled that bad, in any kind of series I've ever been a part of."

Hey, stop interjecting facts into this. The Cubs deserve the disdain regardless! (Oh and Scott Rolen had the same approach to hitting a homerun as did Dale Murphy... hit it, run around the bases and then go sit down).

that's an underrated golf course, IMO.  When I attended USL we won the Harvey Pennick Invitational there, shooting something like 15 or 20 OVER (as a team)...that place could play pretty dang tough for a short track.

Yeah, it's got a lot of up-and-down that knocks yards off your shot to keep you honest. I lived about two miles away and we played there a ton when I was a kid. We'd go watch the NCAA Nationals and watch the big dogs play. Fun.

I think we were 10 or 11, walking with Crenshaw the year he and Kite tied, but he was too fast and we couldn't keep up with him. After a while we sat down on the back of a green and this guy came up and started talking to us, asked us how Ben was doing, just chit-chat for a few minutes. After he left we found out that the guy was Tom Kite, so we became star-struck little fanboys.

Very cool!  A friend of mine played some golf out there with those two when they were all kids (middle school age)...said both were very nice - Kite was kind of a golf dork, Ben was a natural athlete and was good at anything he did.

However, I am familiar with rooster tails in the morning, which on flat topography is not good.

Stranger things have happened - I once found water on a desert course in the Phoenix area (okay, the ball was well out of bounds and landed in someones pool, but still...).
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Morris Williams has actually been closed all year to do some repairs and renovations, including a new clubhouse.  Supposed to reopen by 2013 I think.

That course is FULL of hills, and there is a creek that runs through it too. The only explanation I can think of for the hills would be the earth that had to be moved to build the airport, which used to have main runways across the street. It was a clear advantage if you were used to roaring passenger jets 100' above you while putting or teeing off. The course even had signal lights around some of the holes closest to the runways.

I quibble with the "sprinting around the bases" part. Never heard of it actually. Sprinting around the bases yelling "Hi-oh Silver... AWAY!", yeah, that's not going to go over well.

You should learn to time your tee shot for when a jet's on its power check, and gain an extra 20 yards.
