TDC Renewal/Status?
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:06:48 am »
I read somewhere that the Astros have renewed their TDC with Tri-City through 2014, and I seem to recall [speculation] that the agreement with Corpus runs through 2014 [/speculation].  Does anybody have the real scoop on where they stand with the whole organization?  I know Lancaster is up this year, and like pretty much everyone else I am hoping for a change ... preferably back to the Carolina League.

I'd love for this to become a central clearing house for news and commentary on the process.

Farmstros has a decent rundown on the Player Development Agreements with the various Affiliates over at his site.  Here is a link to his 'clearinghouse' on the subject: LINK

Thanks.  This was what I was looking for.  And I notice that my hope for a return to the Carolina League is a pipedream.

The Red Sox were the previous team to be in Lancaster.  They eventually purchased a team (Salem) in the Carolina League.  There was also some talk a few years ago about a couple of the California league teams moving to the Carolina League.  Those two options are the best ones but both likely won't occur before 2014.

Always ready to go to a game.

Here is the semi official announcement of the extension of the PDC with tri cities.

Not sucking up to Appy here, but I can't imagine liking any two affiliates more than I like Tri-Cities and Greeneville.  Quality orgs both of them, and I hope that both stay in the Astros system for a long time.

I was worried about Greeneville a few years ago.  The league was down to 9 teams and there was talk of doing a way with the Appy. That has resolved it self with the Blue Jays return to the league.  As long as there is a league, I think Greeneville will have a team and the Astros seem to like their partnership.  I seem to remember they signed a five year renewal last summer for the lease of the facility.

What is interesting is both Pioneer Park and Joe Bruno Stadium are both on the campus of colleges.

Got a message today that it looks like Lex may no longer be an Astros affiliate.  Source said Royals coming to Lex and Astros to MidWest League - I sure hope my source is wrong!

The Cubs took the Royals' Kane County affiliate, leaving Peoria open in the MWL. I guess that'd be the strongest possibility? I definitely hope the organization can hold on to Lexington.

If that's the case then there will be a brand new Michigan MWL team.  None of the three current Michigan teams are up for renewal this year.

Farmstros is saying this morning that there have been no negotiations with Lex and that Quad Cities (Davenport Iowa) might be the landing spot.  He also talks about moving from Lancaster to High Dessert (just different levels of pitcher hell)

I am.   I currently reside in Cedar Rapids which has the Low-A affiliate of the Angels  (we saw Mike Trout come through here).   Just an hour and a half over to the Quad Cities and they come here quite a bit.

That's news to me that the Angels have severed ties with the Cedar Rapids club.   Come on down Lexington!

The Astros have been in Cedar Rapids before though I don't remember exactly when.   I'd have to go wander the halls of the stadium to figure that out.

So after digging a little bit, the local sports guy thinks the best bet to land in Cedar Rapids is the Minnesota Twins.   St Louis may be going back to Peoria thus opening up the Quad Cities.

Cedar RapidsKernels have a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at 1:30 to announce an affiliation with the Minnesota Twins.  Astros won't be based here.   Quad Cities club has been very quiet about their plans.

QC is about to be the only option left, isn't it?  Has Lex announced a new affiliation, or might they still be the last one standing?

LEX has a presser scheduled tomorrow in the AM.  Don't know which team is signing there, but have seen credible confirmation that it will not be the Astros.

Well, I haven't heard about Beloit but it's widely derided as the worst ballpark in the Midwest League.

This article http://qctimes.com/sports/baseball/professional/minor/midwest-league/cardinals-river-bandits-officially-part-ways/article_18c44c60-027c-11e2-ac43-0019bb2963f4.html

says that the Angels (who just left CR), the A's and the Astros are the contenders in the Quad Cities.

ETA:  Should have read to the end of the article.  Only the QC, Burlington, and Beloit teams are without PDCs at this time.
