He came through big-time with his hobbled hit in the 10th. I was envisioning a corkscrew K or weak DP but he came through.

Pence showed up only nine weeks ago - but if you've seen him play, you understand the burning desire he brings to the game. It shows up in his gait, in his swing, in his pursuit of a long fly ball.

If you watch him play for more than 9 weeks, that shit starts to grate on you.  Seriously, WTF?

When that thing was over, you just wanted to start head-buttin' people.

On this reaction to Pence, I have to agree.

My only problem with Pence was idiot fans making him out to be something he was not...that was grating to me.  I liked his enthusiasm and hustle - his routes to fly-balls or approach to a 2-0 slider, not so much.  He is a fine addition to a team needing a 5 or 6 holer that can fill in higher in the order in the event of injury.  Here, I saw him as a luxury item, but when the car ain't running you got no use for a navigation system.  I will enjoy laughing at the Pencian moments and applaud his future success (so long as he is not traded to the Rangers - where he would probably be a great fit, I might add).

I agree.  This journalist is falling for Pence's instant appeal, just as the idiot fans here did.  I, for one, got a close up look at Pence's swing when he first came up to the bigs (thanks to gleach's fab seats), and was horrified.  I could not understand how he could even hit the ball, it's like Jim Furyk on acid.  But the fans took to him and the club tried to run an entire marketing plan on that fact.

Pence is a bad baseball player with amazing verve and enthusiasm.  Many people get all starry-eyed about the latter, but most end up realising the former sooner or later.  The Giants' fans and media will too.

Acid is only good for pitching no hitters.
