So is this where we discuss the WS?  The miracle of Marco Scutaro is fun to watch.

And Panda goes deep.  These Giants batters are battling against Verlander.  Some terrific at bats against a true ace.

I'm mired at this diarrhea-filled tomb of a second job, but I loved what I heard on some scratchy, faraway AM station when Scutaro drove in Pagan. There's no excuse for no radio coverage of the World Series in Austin. That's criminal.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

I understand he wants to move to the booth in Houston ... that might even make the Astros look better by comparison, I guess.

I know everyone likes to shit on McCarver, and the reasons are I'm sure completely valid... Having said that, my loathing of Joe Buck so greatly outweighs that of McCarver that when they are broadcasting together, I am actually thankful when McCarver is the one doing the talking.  I fucking hate Joe Buck.

And now Pierzynski providing commentary... Seriously, FML! The only thing that could make this WS broadcast worse is if they decided to do an in-game interview of W. Huber Selig...

It looks to me like Detroit's going to be fairly cold this weekend. I'm hoping that Bud catches pneumonia.

What's the record for strikeouts in a WS? Pence has to have a chance. SF has nobody on the bench to replace him, so he's going to be in every game no matter how bad he's doing.

Ryan Howard, 13 in 2009. If this goes seven, Pence has got to have it in the bag.

I can't believer Fister took that shot off the head and stayed in the game, wasn't killed, didn't get a concussion, doesn't have a knot the size of an orange, etc. Incredible.

I don't know, but it sure seems like I remember MoBerg and Lane getting K'd 30-35 times each in the '05 series...

Well, waddayaknow? Pence fights off some tough pitches and then gets the sac fly to right field. My money was on him rolling over the slider and grounding into a DP.

You know, Romo can really pitch. I wonder if the Giants will entertain the idea of trading Wilson for a different piece (maybe a young starter).

They may well trade Romo, since Wilson is an uncertain commodity after his injury. Whatever happens with that roster, Brian Sabean will make a wise move because he usually does, the Pence move notwithstanding.

Anibal Sanchez could be tough in the cold. And  the way that Vogelsong  pitches inside, the Tigers' hitters may not  have  much fun  either. Fielding and  the  bully will decide this one.

Detroit is running out of time. Pence with a broken bat single.

If before the series began, someone had told you that a fat tatted-up corner infielder with highlighted tips was going to hit three homeruns in a game, who would you have guessed? Yeah, me too.

The fourth inning will be big for Detroit, because if their boppers don't do anything this frame, it could be a while before they get another chance.

SFO still clinging to a 2-0 lead, going to the fifth. And the funny thing is that I don't think that Vogelsong has looked that sharp tonight, but he's making big pitches when he needs them, and the double plays haven't hurt either. I've seen Vogelsong be much more dominating. It'll be interesting to see how long Bochy goes with Vogelsong. I say that he goes seven unless he runs into a problem, although Bochy could start parading lefties out of the bully in the sixth inning too.

Vogelsong again made a huge pitch to Cabrera to escape. He's over 90 pitches though, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Bochy go to the bullpen in the sixth, even if Vogelsong starts the inning.

You know me. I get nervous. I saw Lincecum pitch several times this season, and command was not his strong suit this season, which isn't what you want out of the bully. But Lincecum had the answer tonight. Do you go with him against the Tigers' 3-5 in the eighth?

This is the best movement I've seen from Lincecum this season. Detroit is down to their last three outs. Do you have Lincecum pitch the ninth? I'd go with him, but have Romo and Affeldt ready just in case.

I don't get the animosity directed at Pence.  Sure, he was a spaz, but he always played hard, did his best to help the Astros win, and generally wasn't a dickhead.  It's not his fault the Astros decided to do what they did.  I'm not saying I want him back, but I'm happy for him.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Don't misunderstand me. I never hated Pence. And I certainly won't begrudge him a ring. On the other hand, I'll congratulate him and be very elated for him. My comment was aimed at the dumb luck of ending up on a team that appeared to be grasping at straws to get into the playoffs after getting traded from a team that was expected to contend. However, Pence and Scutaro have made key contributions to the Giants effort. I really hope that Matt Cain drives the final nail home in the Tigers' coffin tonight. I expect Leyland to seriously consider retirement whether or not the Tigers come back.

1-0 Giants in the top of the 2nd, ground rule double by Pence to LCF and a triple to the RF corner by Belt.

If they don't love Pence already in SF, they will.

If they win the World Series, they'll love him forever. He's tailor-made for quirky SFO.

I wonder if that duck on the pond with one out will come back to haunt the Giants. Cain isn't looking particularly sharp in the early going.

He's perfect for them. I hope he finds success for the rest of his career out there, it's a good match for him.

No, he isn't but Scherzer isn't sharp yet either.

I want the Giants to win, but I don't want this to be a sweep. I'd like to hold off The Void a little longer.

+1 I'm really pulling for him to win one, as well as for the two LSU boys Wilson and Theriot.

Not so fast, as you can't hold Cabrera down forever. 2-1 on that oppo.

Scherzer short-arms the ball. I'm not a fan of his delivery, but you can't argue with his results. It looks deceptive.

Scherzer went to the well with that changeup one too many times and it's 3-2 now in the sixth.

Cain throws a spinner that Young pokes over the RF fence to tie the game.

Leyland really rolled the dice on keeping Ducky in to pitch to Sandoval but it worked out and now he's got Coke still on the shelf if they go into extras.

With Papa Grande unlikely to see the mound again in this series, at least in a meaningful game, Leyland's options are limited. Dotel looked pretty good tonight.

Random aside here, but what would be the baseball equivalent of 'hearing footsteps' (as in a football receiver 'hearing footsteps')?

Breaking ball that starts behind the head? SS takes the throw to the CF side of the bag with a runner on first?

Top of the 10th. The CF has to go after that ball, no?!?

Sorry, my lexicon might be off here...  I meant something along the lines of:

A receiver that 'hears footsteps' goes after a ball in a half-assed/timid/hesitant manner because he thinks (or knows) he is about to be crushed by a defender as soon as he touches it.

Is there a similar 'saying' regarding an infielder (or fielder) that starts to 'hesitantly' go after balls?

That's what I meant with the second one, but I was sloppy about it. What I should've written, if Scutaro wasn't busy driving in the lead run, was '2B takes the throw to the CF side of the bag with a runner coming from first.' I don't know of an equivalent though. Prince Fielder heading home same time as the ball?

I missed it somewhere... Why did the Tigers not go with Verlander in game 4?

I understood why Leyland went with Scherzer in game 4 because he'd been very good down the stretch and I think that he thought that the extra day of rest would help Verlander. It was a gamble that didn't payoff, although Scherzer pitched well and wasn't the reason why they lost. The Tigers simply didn't have enough bullpen to go extras with the Giants. Coke did his best, but Scutaro was simply too good to throw a pitch to handle to RF.
