How ready has Wallace been since May 1?

I'm more interested in the Astros thinking about the readiness of Wallace and Johnson.  I can understand making JD Martinez the LF and moving Lee to first permanently (unitl he can get traded, which may happen after he clears waivers).  I'm thinking Johnson should be more worried than Wallace at this point.  Extremely worried IMHO.  Truth be told, neither one of them could hit worth a lick with ducks on the pond (observation only).  Rally killers, that is what they both were for quite an extended time now.  You cannot have middle of the lineup rally killers.  That is inexcusable to have on your major league team.

Major league team - that's really banking on a technicality. How confident are you that they'd win the PCL or Texas league?

My reasons for going down to CC to see the team keep leaving.

Not really surprised about Wallace.  Kind of assumed it. Paredes is surprising.

Tell us how you really feel..........

Go get'em Noe'!!

When a team is bad, then you can decide to wait until they get better because 1) they're young and learning (see 1991 Houston Astros) or 2) hope the veterans on the team help the kids navigate their way through.  I don't think Houston has the semblance of a team that is set with a good set of veterans (most are hurt or underperforming so badly, they don't matter any more) to help young kids.  Nor do they have dinero to trade for any either.  Jim Crane won't let them either.  So sending these two down to get more time in AAA to get their game back makes sense until Houston has a team they can reasonably put together.

Right now, Ed Wade is just going to go the opposite way with the team and that is to see "who can play" in the majors.  It is also called throwing crap up against the wall and see what sticks.  It is all he can do in his mind, because he doesn't have a team, but a collection of players who are doing up and down in terms of performance but not playing as a team.  So if you're going to use the majors as a "audition" stage, then go ahead and do it and use what is left of this miserable season to see if you have players... or not.

Next year, someone will be tasked with putting together a team... young as it may be... but it will be a team.  Right now, bunch of individuals who don't resemble a team at all.

Happ has looked better in his last few starts IMO. Didn't he just give up two earned runs yesterday?

2 ER 5 Total.  Defense was pathetic.  If Barmes and Altuve were in there, he just might have given up 2 total runs and gone another 2 innings.  But his pitch count got up there.

I suspect he remains because he has probably followed the coaching directives, and retained a good attitude. He was probably told to be more aggressive, which he has been the last two starts.

Wrong. The only thing that he's done is throw a few more first pitch strikes. After that, he is still nibbling way too much. He gave up ten hits in five innings. That ain't exactly fooling them.

I think you are confusing poor command with nibbling, and he doesn't have great stuff (especially secondary stuff) so he never fools a lot of batters.  To me at least, he has looked more aggressive, whereas I used to think he was just scared.

Okay, I'll give you partial credit. When he can throw down the middle, which he does when he's real behind in the count, it isn't just a matter of command. He's nibbling and not trusting his stuff, IMO. Of course, I'm on record as saying that his stuff isn't good enough to attack hitters up in the zone the way that he does.

Defense just got worse with Paredes at 3b.  Hands of stone he has

So... does this mean Bogusevic in RF, with Bourgeois needed in CF until Schafer comes off the DL? I assume Bourgeois will play RF at that point... or perhaps even some sort of platoon?

Well, Paredes has as many RBI in 1 AB as Johnson had in July. Everything between now and September 1 is gravy.

Durango being sent down, with a corresponding move to be announced Friday. I wonder if they're gonna give Shuck a chance? He's hit .417 in his last 10 games, giving him a .303 AVG and .401 OBP for the year.

Personally, I think I've seen about enough of J-Mike as a starter. I'd rather see an all-kids OF.

Wallace 3-3 with a walk, double, run and RBI so far.  Johnson 0-4 with 5 LOBster.

My money is on Shuck being called up.

In my limited experience in seeing Shuck, I would be concerned about his arm in center or right.  Hell, I would be concerned about his arm in left.  He does make a lot of contact and get on base though.

I'll need a fifth of whiskey and a few cartons of cigarrettes to even approximate her voice.

Really?  Scouting reports on him coming out of college were solid on his arm.  He pitched for OSU and routinely hit 90 on the gun.

Maybe so.  I have only seen a few throws, but my recollection was a real marginal arm, even for left.  I assumed that is why he has slowly transitioned from center (and other outfield positions) to strictly left, and not to right.  His on-base skills would be nice for a team if he could actually play a servicable center.  I just assumed his arm was too weak for that.

One of those tweets in the chron says it will be Shuck.  I assume he is not just up to be a backup.  Wonder who will drop when the guy from Atlanta is healthy.

Michaels please?  But I imagine either Shuck or Bogusevic goes back down in 2 weeks when Schafer is activated.

So, I wonder what they learned about Durango and/or Shuck in the past 5-6 days that they didn't know before?

Mills quote from AF, "Mills looking for Shuck to pinch run, pinch hit, play good defense. Plays mostly center and right. Will see time mostly in RF."

I think Shuck's ability to play RF is the reason for the call up.

I don't get it. Out of his last two years, he has only 5 games in right, and almost all of his games this year have been in left.  Don't they communicate?

My fear is that he's one of the protagonists in some of the three ring outfielding I saw in ST this year.

When they sent Wallace down I was glad that finally Millsie could pencil in Lee and Michaels to play every day. Then they bring up this Martinez and he takes a bunch of Michaels' playing time. At least Lee is playing. I'm hoping that Hallsie clears waivers after he leaves the DL. The Astros can pick him up and get him in the line up pronto.
