Good old fashion platoon?
« on: June 22, 2011, 09:46:47 am »
If Carlos's contract is somehow off loaded, or at least a portion of it, I would not mind seeing a Bourgeois and Bogusevic platoon.

Bourgeois vs Lefties this season 17-fo-39 for a nice .436/.463/.513 line.

Bogusevic vs righties at AAA 33-for-105 for a .314/.400/.486 line.

That works out to a combined .347/.416/.514 line.

I'd rather just see Bourgeois full time.  He and Bourn at the top of the lineup and in the field are fantastic to watch.

Plus with only one more year of Bourn before FA, Bourgeois could be a nice stop gap until hopefully George Springer is ready to take over.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Why are Carlos' contract and his playing time related?  It's a sunk cost.

You'd not play him?  5th best BA in the majors since May 1.

Ms. Gardner says that Carlos is a draw. And, if you are paying him, then you might as well get the people in the seats to go along with it.

I don't necessarily agree with the all powerful Pam, but Carlos is going to be out there as long as he is on the roster.

Plus, he has played pretty solid the last couple of months.

You do realize you cant possibly expect Bog's AAA numbers to carry over, right?  And that Bourgeois 39 at bats are not sufficient to base expectations off of.  Not shooting down the platoon idea, but the combined line you've come up with is not what to base your argument on.

I realize that the sample size is small on Bourgeois, and that Bogusevic's AAA numbers won't exactly carry over. But, both of those player's career numbers also suggest a platoon as well. It was just too much work for my lazy ass to combine more than this single season. Sorry.

I am ambivalent on the matter; just saying that the fact that they are stuck paying him is not a reason to play him if they feel they have a better option.

I don't buy Pam arguments any more.  Drayton's price is set, he doesn't care about asses in the seats.

I don't even buy the original premise that Carlos brings in fans.  Regardless, even though Drayton gets the revenues, I doubt he sweats out whether Carlos will bring a few more folks these last few games.  I also seriously doubts he is making demands of Wade or Mills to play Carlos.  Yes, I sure as hell could be wrong, but I suspect he basically checked out when the deal was agreed upon.

Although Bourgeois' misplay of that 7th inning "triple" cost the Astros the game last night, in my opinion.

Carlos is not bringing in fans, heck the guys that dressed up in Sombreros to cheer him on don't even show up any more.

I firmly believe that Carlos playing/not playing has zero impact on attendance at this point.  That being said, he has been hitting since May 1st at a good clip and there isn't a better middle of the lineup option to replace him with.

Let's put it this way: For all the talk about Lee improving his hitting, and Wallace lacking power... Wallace is still out-slugging him in that stretch.

JD has said the power will come for Wallace and I believe JD.

You just proved my point, and maybe it was Bagwell that said it.  I knew one of the tv guys said it.

Actually... IIRC, both Bagwell and JD have bantered on during a couple of different Saturday telecasts about it and both agreed that the power will come.

Not completely true.  Of course, if it doesn't sell it will be his.  But if it does, the transaction is likely with an effective date either on or before the date the Sale Purchase Agreement was signed....thus the revenues and expenses post that date would be Crain's.

It better.  The power outage this season is my second biggest frustration, behind the bullpen.

The Rangers have exactly twice as many HR as the Astros.
