Another edition of "Eatin' in the oil patch"...
« on: August 12, 2010, 03:59:59 pm »
Today it was Sally's Cafe in Sundown, TX.  The green chile cheeseburger may be the best burger I've ever had.  Yes, I'm serious.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Not exactly an oil patch, but I ate at Father's Office here in LA a few days ago.  Maybe the best "gourmet" burger I've ever had.  And easily the best fries I've ever had.  Plus they have several dozen craft brews on tap, so the whole experience was a win.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

In the BP oil patch, I had a shrimp PoBoy at Steamboat Bills in Lake Charles.  It was outstanding.

And if the call what I saw on the beach (Gulf Shores) OIL, then they never visited Galveston in the 70's/80's.

Is it a chile on top, or is it diced and mixed in with the burger?

I heard some radio segment that said that the oil that was on Galveston Beach in the late 70's/80's was also from an oil spill.  I always thought it was natural when I was a kid.

I remember an oil spill from a tanker in about 1980 that made a fucking mess of the beaches for a good while.

There was something earlier than that, because I remember dodging tarballs in '78 or '79.

There was also this in 1979.

I do too. I can't find anything that addresses what their cargo might have been but in looking at the pictures it looks like the Mimosa was a bulk carrier and not, say, a container carrier. So given the fact that it was leaving Houston I'd guess either grain or cement.
