I bought a 12 pack at Spec's.  I'm enjoying it quite a bit; IMHO it's one of Shiner's better releases.

i read the writeup of it on the shine site and it sounded like a style that i like.
i think shiner has done a good job venturing outside of their base flavors
(bock, light, blonde, etc.) in the last few years.

did they just stop making shiner kolsch? edit:  just saw it was replaced with
shiner leicht as the summer seasonal.  bummer, i liked the kolsch alot more than the leicht flavor.

I grabbed a six of Frost last week.  Very crisp but not truly "hoppy", but the best description I could settle on was that it's a South Texas winter beer.  Given that winter (at worst) means the mid-20's, an imperial stout wouldn't really fit that description; Frost does.
Drinking for two.

I had it at a beer tasting last week-very impressive, although some may find it a little on the bland side.  The label is beautiful too.

Pilsner is bland? compared to what you usually drink?

Budweiser is a pilsner.

In much the same way that water is a pilsner.

Exactly my point.

Your point is that Budweiser is in no way indicative of a pilsner?  So why did you bring it up?

My point is that pilsners can be very bland, such as Budweiser.

I've been to Pilsen (Plzen); I've drunk Pilsner (Plzenský); and Budweiser (at least the beer commonly associated with that name in the US) is no Pilsner.

Now Budweißer (sold in the US variously as Czechvar and Budvar) ... that's a decent Pilsner (even though it does not come from Pilsen).

Budweiser is bland because it's fucking water, not because it's a pilsner.  Your logic here is completely screwed.

The only thing i've asserted is that it is possible for a pilsner to be bland.  Is that controversial? If I said "this steak is bland would I get 10 angry responses from self-appointed steak snobs?

changing gears back to shiner, thanks to the recommendations here, I picked up a 6pk of Shiner 101.  I'm on some antibiotics so have to be patient (oh so very patient!!) before I can actually try it.  I expect it to be well worth the wait.

See that's where you are wrong.  It is possible for watered down goat piss to call itself Pilsner (or Judy or whatever), but it is *not* possible for a Pilsner to be bland.
