A Fine Hatchet Job on the TankedCommander
« on: October 02, 2009, 02:12:45 pm »
The Smartest Man in Baseball Is an Idiot. (Actual title of the article).

An excerpt:

"Now the lawyer is back in the playoffs, so watch it happen again. At some critical juncture — or at several critical junctures — La Russa will feel compelled to exercise his superior intellect, probably as regards to a pitcher. The TBS broadcast crew undoubtedly will point out the subtle brilliance of this maneuvering, and then the whole game will blow up in his face."
"Holy shit, Mozart. Get me off this fucking thing."

That's one of the more entertaining things about Cardinals baseball.

Imagine JdJO and Justice in thrall of LaRussa as Astros skipper. Yikes.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Not attempting a thread hijack (as I prefer the topic as originally intended), but when I saw 'A Fine Hatchet Job' I immediately thought you were referring to part of this story ("Ted Williams' frozen head for batting practice at cryogenics lab"):

In "Frozen," Larry Johnson, a former exec at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., graphically describes how The Splendid Splinter" was beheaded, his head frozen and repeatedly abused.

Shortly after [Williams died], technicians with no medical certification gleefully photographed and used crude equipment to decapitate the majors' last .400 hitter.  Williams' severed head was then frozen, and even used for batting practice by a technician trying to dislodge it from a tuna fish can.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Pretty much describes everything that has followed the Splinter's death.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I remember the angst in the playoffs for most St. Louie fans was when LaRussa could not help himself in overmanaging to give a sure playoff series win the Bravos of Atlanta.  The Redbirds were ahead 3-1 in the series and set to go to the World Series, when all of sudden Atlanta seized opportunities apparently provided by LaRussa's over indulgence to come from behind and win the series 4-3.

Some in St. Louie have never forgiven the skipper, even though he brought them a World Series this decade.
