Sunday Morning Trivia II
« on: September 27, 2009, 10:37:59 am »
Five different Astro relievers have allowed as many as 8 earned runs in a game.  The first time was 1963 and the last was 1990.  Who were they?

No but it's tough.  I'm probably going to have to give a lot of clues.  The research question you can spend a week on.

One pitcher just had to eat innings and gave up 10 runs.  One was drafted in the expansion draft.  One was a Rule 5 draftee and the other was Dominican.

None of the above.  The Rule 5 guy came from the Blue Jays, expansion guy from the Cubs, the guy who gave up 10 runs was both a SP and RP in his career, mostly with STL.

None of the above.  Get two of them right and I'll give up the names of the two obscure pitchers who did it in 1963 and 1987.

One of the four pitchers was traded for Denny Walling.

Ding!  Aug 3rd 1989 he relieved Jim Clancy in the game against the Reds after Clancy allowed the first 7 hitters to score.  14 runs in the first inning.

No.  The early one was in relief of Don Nottebart and the 1987 one was in relief of Knepper and Dave Meads.  Everyone got bombed in this game against ftc.

Nope.  I'm going to give this one up..Dick Drott, Julio Solano and the X-man all gave up 8 earned runs in a relief outing.

Maybe a little too obscure, but it's nearing the end of the season and I'm really having to dig for good questions.

Wild Dog, just want to say that even though I never post/guess in these (Sunday AM not typically "computer time" for me I guess), I think it's really cool that you've been doing this, and appreciate you putting in all the work. I really enjoy reading through them and learning. Thank you, and hope you bring it back next season.
