Beaumont recommendations

We're taking a long weekend and going to Beaumont!  I love to travel.  Other than not going, and other than Al-Ts in Winnie, any suggestions for places to stay and places to eat?

I guess the Hotel Elegante is where the fancy folks stay.

Bryan's 797 on N. 5th Street is the Galatoire's of Beaumont.  The food is very good in that high New Orleans style, and is priced similarly. (The address is 797 N. 5th St.)

Suga's is a good restaurant downtown that takes an haute cuisine approach to traditional southern favorites.  They often have jazz in the evenings too.  It's at 461 Bowie St.

For a cup of coffee or a quick light breakfast, you can't go wrong with Rao's at 2596 Calder or 4440 Dowlen.

P-Reaux's on MLK just south of Calder is a good centrally located cajun spot (eta: apparantly it's called the Seafood Shack now?)

For another enjoyable cajun/burger destination, the Pine Tree Lodge is fun.  It's out on a bayou and you can sit on a porch drinking beer and feeding hushpuppies to the alligators.  If you can't have fun doing that, you really shouldn't be spending any time in Beaumont.

The Pine Tree Lodge is here.

That actually sounds pretty fun.

We had this recent discussion:

http://www.spikesnstars.com/forums/index.php?topic=108486.0;all

Don't know if there's anything worthwhile in there, but you might check it out.  Jane Doe and strosrays are our resident Beamontions, I'm sure they can steer you in some direction.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

If you can't have fun doing this then you wouldn't know a good time if it showed up on your doorstep with a six pack and a TV guide.

Al-Ts gets a glowing review in this week's Houston Press.

Yep.  Not for everyone.  If he shows up in that bowtie, they'll send him home in a box.

Beaumont's the big city compared to some of the places I work.  Most East Texans have a picture of their grandad in a bow tie, or of Malcolm X.  Either way, it works.  Come to think of it, I've only caught grief from Jim, and now you.  Most folk are mildly amused.
