Traders Remorse - Parraz & Lumsden
« on: July 12, 2009, 06:06:49 am »
Back when the trade happened.  I understood the need for Parraz to have a change of scenery and wasn't sure if he would ever develop the potential that was seen in him.  Now half a season after the trade, I feel like the Astros got fleeced.

Tyler Lumsden started the year in RR.  In 14 appearances over 18 1/3 innings, he walked more batters (12) than he struck out (10) and had an ERA of 4.42.  As a result, he was demoted to Corpus where in a limited sample size (3.2 IP) his ERA is 12.27.

Parraz, prior to an injury that has landed him on the DL, is hitting .358 in his first year in AA.  He is getting on base at a .451 clip and is slugging at a .553 pace.  He leads the Texas League in all those categories.

I know player development is a marathon and not a sprint.  But as of today, this looks like a bad deal.
Always ready to go to a game.

He seemed to take the trade personally in the one Hooks game I've been to this year...http://www.caller.com/news/2009/apr/14/hooks-fight-back-then-fall-back-cc-pulls-even-in/

Quote
That traced back to the eighth, when Parraz bowled over Esposito while scoring the Naturals’ sixth run — with no play at the plate on a ground ball to shortstop with the putout at first. Esposito and Parraz exchanged words after the collision and then before Parraz’s next at-bat.
