Sunday Morning Trivia
« on: July 05, 2009, 09:51:04 am »
'mornin all.  I promise to put the tally count down for the whole season later today.  No, really.

Seven times an Astro player has driven in a run in at least 8 consecutive games.  Lance Berkman has done it 3 of those 7.  Who are the other 4 players?  As always, one guess per post.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Oh shit, I should have got this. I still cuss out Gary Woods for leaving third early.

Gary Woods

Ding!  He's the last one.  9/5/80 to 9/16/80

He was called out for leaving 3rd too early in the final game of the Phillie/Astros playoff series in 1980.  Umpire totally blew that call.  Gave it Mike Schmidt....just gave it to him.

Replays show that he did not leave early, the umpire just blew it.

Interesting. I didn't remember it that way (but there are now a lot of things that I don't remember correctly!). I remember getting screwed on the comebacker to Niekro, but I've been laboring under the belief that the Woods episode was simply a baserunning error.

iirc, it was not the final game. i think it was the 4th game.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
