37 exhibition games
« on: February 28, 2009, 09:52:29 am »
That's my quick count, including WBC exhibitions and split squad games.

I would imagine that's a record and a real challenge to players and coaches on how to pace and manage such a long exhibition season.

I hate the WBC.

You really can't blame the WBC on the length of ST. In my view, ST has been too long for a great while. I wish that I would have had even a shot at representing my country on a baseball field.

They added a week to ST because of WBC.

Me, too. That would have been a great experience.

And the World Series may end in November due to the WBC.

International competition is only interesting when it allows the best players in the world to compete against each other when they otherwise would not.  In baseball, with the possible exception of Cuba (though that is much less than it used to be), that really isn't missing.  MLB is an international league.

I understand that point, but there is the thrill of pulling for your country and of playing  for your country.

There's gotta be a better way to do the WBC than what they do now.  Spring training is waaay too long as it is.

Hey, if anybody's planning to make it to Port Charlotte for the Rays-Astros game tomorrow, feel free to drop by section 213, row 14, seat 12 or 13 and say hello. Look for the slightly scruffy 30-something white guy in the Astros hat. Unfortunately I don't think I'll make it up to the Kissimmee area for any home games.

Are you going to be in Bradenton Sunday? chuck and I plan to be there. PM me if so.

Afraid not. Heading back up to NY Thursday night; the only other game I'm seeing down here is Puerto Rico vs. Red Sox that day in Ft. Myers.
