Berkman's jersey
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:53:00 pm »
I'm sure Cabrera is a fucking Astronaut, but I didn't see it posted anywhere else.  Just the title of the article, "Berkman's jersey returns from space", made me crack up...

Quote
The two men presented first baseman Lance Berkman with his own jersey, which they took with them to the International Space Station in March.

Berkman's jersey spent 14 days on the space station and saw a lot of action.

Puma wanted to wear the jersey to bed, but NASA wouldn't let him.

In Space, no one can hear you unwrapping a Twinkie.

And it would take a lot more of those dehydrated, freeze-dried Twinkies to fill Lance up in space.

Astronauts batting practice. Looks like a pop-up to me.

And another.

Someone should've told him that it helps to be looking at the thing you're trying to hit.

It's not even an authentic jersey.  It would've been cooler if they had contacted Lance before they went to the space station and got one (or two) of his actual jerseys to take with them.  And maybe had their own mission patches sewn onto the sleeve.  I don't think these guys put much thought into this.  Although I suppose they had more important things to worry about...

They could've taken El Kabong's jersey, as a combination souvenir and emergency parachute.

The band I used to work for had one of their songs chosen as the "wakeup" tune for a shuttle mission a few years back. A couple CDs of theirs made the trip, too. (I designed the layout for "Big Trouble" years ago)

I had a neighbor that works at NASA, and she is able to regularly send items into space. She gets a little certification that the object spent however much time in space, etc.

The first thing she sent was her Aggie ring. The second thing she sent was her Nolan Ryan rookie card.
