Seems strange not only because Moehler was pulled early, but because Coop has Bourn (getting a breather because he struggling) pinch hit

And brings Villarreal in to pitch the 6th (who oddly enough gives up a monster home run to the first batter faced on a 2 strike pitch).

Seems strange not only because Moehler was pulled early, but because Coop has Bourn (getting a breather because he struggling) pinch hit

In Moehler's four starts prior to today, he's went 5, 5, 5 & 6. Yet it seems strange he was pulled after 5?

And brings Villarreal in to pitch the 6th (who oddly enough gives up a monster home run to the first batter faced on a 2 strike pitch).
Has it landed yet?  They said 464'.  Sheets could be seen mouthing "oh my god..."

Strange because he was pitching fairly well.  Brew Crew seemed to have figured him out the third time through the lineup though...

Actually a bit.  But for the longball by Fielder, he'd been pitching well and was only at 79 pitches.  Not calling it a bad decision, but was somewhat expecting him to stay in for at least another inning.

He was pitching well in the others too. Cecil seems to think he is a 5 inning pitcher and he may be wrong or he may be right, but I fail to see how it's strange?

Bottom 8: Valverde pitching

Fielder: grounds out to Berkman who ranges way to his right (bip). 1 out, none on.

Hart: stand up triple of the wall in right, odd play at the wall by Spaz (ss, bip). 1 out, runner at 3B.

Branyan: (infield playing in) struck out swinging (ss, ss, ss). 2 outs, runner at 3B.

Brewers announcers saying Vaverde was 'grazed in the cheek' by a ball last week.  'Grazed' my ass, ball ended up in left after it nailed Papa Grande in the head.  Jackasses, all of 'em...

Hardy: flied out to left (cs, bip). 3 outs.

Surprised is probably a better word than strange.  I'm not Coop and I don't pretend to read his mind, but I was under the impression that he wants Moehler to stretch it out to more than 5.  He was a late conversion to a starter and moving Sampson to the bullpen makes me think starting is where Coop wants Moehler to stay.  Generally, I think Coop wants his starters to go deeper, but then again, Moehler has given up 4.

Maybe he would have stayed in if Sheets wasn't bending over the Astros lineup, but Coop probably wanted to keep the score at 3 runs and figured the bullpen was the best way to do it.

Didn't see much life or fight in the Astros tonight (offense appeared anemic again, coupled with some poor base running).  Hopefully we'll see the '08 Astros play tomorrow!

Sheets shut'em down, and the aggressive baserunning didn't work tonight on the few chances they had. Still, a 17-11 May looks good.

Did anyone catch Coop in the post game last night? He said (paraphrasing) that no team will shut down this offense for more than a few games.

Thanks, Coop.

It's draft week!

I'll be majorly depressed after the draft when I realize how much writing I have to do after getting back from the in-laws where I'll be for the week after the draft.
