Anyone know Detroit?
« on: May 01, 2008, 06:11:25 am »
Might be going there next week for two weeks (or at the end of the month for a month).  Anything interesting to do?  Anything to avoid, other than the city itself?  A Tigers game is a given, assuming they're in town and work doesn't interfere.
If it all works out, this work will lead to a repatriation back to Houston in the next month or two...Nice!

If you like Polish food, there are several excellent eateries.  From my limited business travels, that's about the extent of what I have time for when I've been there in the past several years.

My memories of of Detroit as a kid (I have family there) typically involved going to Winnipeg and pretending I was James Bond entering East Germany whenever we stopped at the border check.

They have a super Greek restaurant.  When I remember the name, I'll let you know.  Where are you staying?  I know of a great B&B in Wyandotte (sp?) if you need lodging.

That would be great, thanks.  I don't think I've ever eaten in a Greek restaurant!
I'm not sure where I'll be staying, it's still kind of up in the air, but I think it'll be in the city, near a certain automaker's building.

I was going to suggest visiting the trailer park where Eminem was raised, but didn't know if Guiness would be strapped.

I second the Greek food in Greektown. If you like art and/or industry, the Detroit Institute of Art has some interesting Diego Rivera murals commissioned by the Ford Co. depicting the Detroit automobile industry.

I think you mean Windsor, not Winnipeg.

The Greek restaurant is called Pegasus.  Excellent food.

Sorry that is exactly what I meant.  Effing cold medicine.
