The 3rdinals are starting to pucker, Drinking Dave, the Pitcher Fixer is now arguing with the local rabble.  Here's the gist of the lastest contretemps with a sports radio talker,

Slaten: "Hi, this is Kevin Slaten at '590 the Fan' in St. Louis. How are you?
Duncan: "I'm fine, thank you.''
Slaten: "Good. Could we grab you for a couple minutes to talk a little bit about the (Anthony) Reyes decision?
Duncan: "Kevin, I'm not going to go on your show.''
Slaten: "Why not?''
Duncan: "Because you're a nasty man and I don't like you.''
...
Slaten: "What you're doing right now is slandering me based on other people telling you lies.''
Duncan: "I'm not doing it publicly like you do (to) other people.''
Slaten: "You're not? You're on the radio.''
Duncan: "Well, I hope not.''
Slaten: "Well, sure you are. I told you we were on the radio.''
Duncan: "No, you did NOT.''
Slaten: "Of course I did.''

Slaten Fired

"This is an unfortunate situation, but we have to make decisions to protect our licenses,’’ [station GM] Crocker said.

Slaten said the station was reacting to pressure from the Cardinals, who he said used this incident as an excuse to remove a voice from the local airwaves that often is critical of the team.

"This is a vindictive and retaliatory practice by the Cardinals that has gotten me fired,'' Slaten said. "The Cardinals are at the very root of this, and 590 has thrown me under the bus to curry favor with the Cardinals.’’

Translation:  "My company fired me for acting like a dick and pissing off our single biggest client."  Oh the humanity.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

while he did act like a dick, and probably did piss off the cardinals, if slaten truly didn't disclose to duncan that he was on the air, then the fcc could and would certainly fine them.  doubtful they would actually lose their license as a result, but if complaints were filed against the station it's a possibility.  imho, firing him sends a bigger message to the fcc than the cardinals.
