Real Ale Sisyphus Barleywine (non BB)
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:33:06 am »
I bought a couple of 6 packs of Sisyphus Barleywine while they had it at Spec's downtown but some of them seemed spoiled.  I was wondering if any of our beer guys/gals had the same experience?

Spoiled how?  Soured?  Oxidized (sherry/cardboard taste)?  Other?

Have you tasted it previously?

Bad bottles of commercial beer do happen, but they are (thankfully!) pretty rare in my experience.

I think he was suggesting an alternative interpretation of your username.

I drank one on a previous day from the same lot and it was fine but the next one I had was very sour.  The bad one had some sediment at the bottom but being a homebrewer I usually dismiss such things.  These guys are a bit pricey to have bad ones in the bunch.

Ah, apologies, I didn't know you were a homebrewer.  Sometimes when people on the internets talk about beer, anything that doesn't taste like what they are used to is of concern.  I haven't brewed for a few years.  Even though I was pretty decent at it, the occasional infected or oxidized bottle would turn up.  So if you are anything like I was, you definitely know a bad bottle when you taste one.

Anyhoo, I can only recall one sixer I've ever had that was soured.  It was Rahr's Ugly Pug last fall.  If I were you I'd shoot Real Ale an email and see what they say.

My bad. It was a nice effort, and I thought it might have gone unnoticed.
