not so fast...Footer reports Kazuo had "the" surgery and

Recovery time initially was estimated to be two weeks, but the Astros increased the timetable to two-to-three weeks, after which time Matsui will resume working out to prepare for the season.

"We won't put him on [the DL] right away, but from the report from the doctors, it's a foregone conclusion he'll start the year on the DL," general manager Ed Wade said.

So Mark Loretta is presumably the opening day 2B, and batting 2nd?

That's a pretty good anal fissure insurance policy...

If they don't trade Loretta to the Orioles.  JD was saying how much Blum would enjoy starting OD in San Diego and how much sense it would make because he could hit from the left.

At least we know Matsui won't be sitting on his laurels after signing that FA contract. In fact, he probably won't be sitting on anything for a while.

Unbelievable.  Loretta - of the .303 OBP the second half of last year - you like in the 2 spot, but Matsui's .304 OBP away from Coors last year is unacceptable.

You're not just stupid, you're also intellectually dishonest.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

But Loretta was an AS two years ago. And according to JD, he is RISPy.
Oye. Vamos, vamos.

What do the Orioles have the Astros want?  Would Q and Loretta be packaged together?

I'm all in favor of shipping out Q while his stock is high.

Just get Kaz a donut for the dugout and he's good to go.  And some fiber1 bars, for crying out loud.
Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

That's a pretty good anal fissure insurance policy...

"When [Loretta's] playing, I think he's an exceptional two-hole hitter," Cooper said. "He takes pitches, he's not afraid to hit with two strikes, he knows how to handle the bat. He's a good hit and run man, he'll put the bat on the ball. He'll work pitchers. He's a good ideal No. 2 hitter. ... When he's playing, it's possible he'll hit second."
