First cuts of Spring Training:

Neive, James, Gervacio, Yordany Ramirez, Estrada, Reineke - all sent to RR

Manzella, Muecke, and Niekro - assigned to minor league camp
Always ready to go to a game.

No surprises there.  The next round of cuts (any cut) from here on should be more interesting.

Yep, the next round will be interesting. Cassel seems to have thrust himself into the mix simply by not walking batters. We really seem to have have a problem finding the strike zone.

Funny, I expect Cassel to one of the next cuts to the pitching staff.

That's what I would have thought, but he got some ink on mlb.com simply for throwing strikes. Cooper seems disgusted with all of the walks.

He was San Diego's version of Sampson.  Both are behind Chacon at the moment for the 5th spot.  And, yes, Woody will make the team unless his arm falls off.

If you look at the actual stats, though, the walks are not very evenly distributed.  McLemore with 10 (possibly sealing his fate, imo), Randolph & Runelvys with 6 (perhaps the veterans Coop was referring to?) and Paulino & Wright with 5 (two guys in their first ST that Coop was excusing) account for 32 of the 56 (or was it 58?) total.

You're right, though, that Cassell is probably moving up the ladder with his command.
