« on: December 11, 2007, 07:04:37 pm »
Ryan Houston, a 6-foot-4 righthander who's won 34 games in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system in nine seasons, was claimed off waivers by the Astros today.

Houston, 28, has spent his entire career in the Blue Jays minor leagues, going 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA in in 50 appearances out of the bullpen last season. He was recently released by the Blue Jays and accepted his assignment to the Astros, who have placed him on their 40-man roster.

Houston is 34-30 with a 3.86 ERA in 279 career minor league appearances since 1999, mostly in relief.

His away jersey would have his name on both sides.

Which calls for some non-Astros late night trivia. What player wore his birthday on the back of his uni?

No, it would have his team on both sides.

Not that I'm aware of. Reggie Cleveland never played for the Indians, Daryl Boston never played for the Red Sox, Claudell Washington never played for the Senators (or Nats), and, thank goodness, Tyler Houston was never an Astro. It just might be a first.

Some close ones.

Jim York played for New York.
Dave Philley played for both the Philadelphia Athletics and the Phillies
"Francisco"s Santos and Oliveras played for San Francisco

La Rue Washington was drafted by the Texas Rangers 4 years after they left Washington.  Close.

Still some possibilities out there, my favorite being current Cardinals minor leaguer Moises Colorado.

At the moment, he's ticketed for Round Rock though.

The only thing better than this would be if Huston Street signed with the Astros too.

And the only thing better than THAT would be if Huston Street and Ryan Houston married.

Not MLB, but... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2190

Also, the trivia answer is Carlos May.
