My expectations of the Aggies are so low that I won't be disappointed. In this game, anyway. And the horns are beatable this year! just not by us. ah well.

And I'd offer special Thanksgiving for my nephew Chris and cousin Adam, both in the Army in Afghanistan, for their continued health and safety, and cousin Mike who's in the 73rd Rangers, who is somewhere unspecified (but not too hard to guess)

Thanksgiving at Phil's house:
Meat and Cheese Tray
Turkey Breast stuffed with Wild Mushrooms and Onions with a Madeira Sauce
Cornbread Dressing
Asparagus Risotto
Broccoli with Garlic and White Wine
Sweet and Sour Butternut Squash
Pumpkin Cake

Not even.    There are just quite a few of us that gather.  Don't forget Polish Catholics are large families.  I'm the best baker out of my mom's daughters, so I get to do the baking.  Which is cool, cause it leaves me time to watch football during the day.

We're going to the Hard Rock in London, as they have a 'Thanksgiving' dinner on offer.  We'll see how that pans out....

No days off though!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone--good golf, good tennis or....whatever it was that Marvin used to say.  Anyway, have fun, eat too much, drink too much (but don't drive), and try not to argue too much with your family :)

Recipe?

10 slices bacon, cooked crisp, drained and cooled
3 large tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup minced green onions
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
6 drops Tabasco Sauce

Combine bacon, tomatoes, mayonnaise, mustard, onions, parsley, and Tabasco ina food processor.  Process until chopped, but not pureed, preserving some of the texture.  Adjust seasonings.  Serve with crisp, fresh vegetables or melba toast.

May be prepared up to 2 days in advance.  Refrigerate.

Wow, I haven't seen such a foo foo menu since I last ate in LA.  House of das will serve Roast Turkey, smashed potatoes with gravy, cranberries (canned as well as sauced), brussel sprouts, oyster stuffing and pumpkin pie.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.  May you always remember to be thankful for those who have sacrificed for your freedoms, provided for your needs throughout the years, loved you in good times and bad and for the love and grace of God in heaven.  And for the Admins of this board.  Them too...

I had a recipe once for cherry cheesecake (made with Philly cream cheese) that was just outstanding.  I lost the recipe in our move to Austin from Houston.  Every year, someone will ask me why I stopped bringing cherry cheesecake to our family Thanksgiving dinner.  I have tried to come up with new stories about why every year, because it's kinda boring to say I lost the recipe.

Happy Thanksgiving OWA!

I love large family Thanksgivings.  Before my grandparents were killed, we had 6 turkeys (2 baked, 2 fried, 2 smoked) and 3 hams plus sides and desserts (at least 12 pies + cobblers + cakes, cookies, brownies).  No one went home hungry.

This is how strosrays groaning board will be set for tomorrow (roughly 25 guests):

(Fried) turkey
Spiral ham
Lasagne (with 50/50 ground beef and Italian sausage, and rigatoni insteas of those flat things with curly edges)
BBQd beef brisket
Pork spare ribs
Halupki (sp?) w/sauerkraut
Italian green beans
Stuffed artichokes
Squash casserole
Dressing (ingredients not disclosed under penalty of law)
Bacon and butter mashed potatoes
Potatoe salad (Dan Quayle spelling)
Fresh sourdough rolls
Fresh schoolhouse rolls
Crescent rolls (out of a can)
Apple pie
Cherry pie
Pumpkin pie
Pecan tassies
Kolache (nut rolls)
Homemade vanilla ice cream

All leftovers go to the Salvation Army, while meantime here and the among the wreckage the survivors lie, sucking on Tums and guzzling Alka Seltzer, watching football out of one eye and sneaking a nap with the other.  And feeling thankful, after a fashion.

Thanksgiving will be memorable for our family.  My 11 year old daughter was admitted to the hospital with Pneumonia earlier today.  They are waiting to see which strand she has.  It doesn't look like anything major but when it is your child everything is major.

On an even deeper note: A friend of our family has been in surgical ICU for 2 months now after her esophagus ruptured.  She is slowly making progress but her husband and two daughters (11 & 17) are living life split between home and the hospital.  Last month, her husband told me "be thankful for ordinary days".  That is #1 on my list this year of things I am thankful for: ordinary days.

Now back to more upbeat programming.
Always ready to go to a game.

Goes without saying.

But thanks for saying it, anyway.  My father passed away last month, so I guess this will be my first Thanksgiving ever without him hanging around.  He was the one who always insisted on the halupki (or however you spell it), which he called, affectionately, "gut bombs."

We have decided to go ahead and overstuff ourselves and get hammered as we normally would, which is I am pretty sure how the old man would want it.

Thanks for the smallest things.  And for a little peace, too, when we find it.

My condolence for your loss.

halupki (or however you spell it)

They know how to spell it down at the SPJST.

Godspeed in both their recoveries.

Well its the day before thanksgiving and what do i see, but a post about christmas. seems to follow the rest of the norm these days. i figure a lot of you will be traveling, visiting, drinking, eating, watching football, and doing all those things that have become associated with the day. But anyhow I am here to give thanks for all of you who keep this place going. It kind of makes everday a day of thanksgiving. As for the real traditonal holiday everyone be safe come back to post and just be happy and enjoy.

Great new pic, Fredia! I love when people post pics of their family members here. It more than makes up for the weird avatars we've come to expect out of Limey and the Zippster.
