Union worried Selig, teams might collude to keep A-Rod's price down

Looks like Scott Boras is not very happy that GMs shared information and played pretty darn close to the line on collusion.  This is going to get very interesting.

ARod is in another league... where no one can afford him. Leaving that much money on the table is spectacularly ridiculous.

Screw all of them. I hope no one signs him and he has to sit out. Make Bora$$ sweat for a change.

A-Rod in one of the independent leagues to keep in shape while Boras backpedals. That would be fun to watch.

I am against collusion, but I wonder why the owners have to abid by this and players don't.  I mean if for example, two high profile 3B are FA, and both has the same Agent.  And one team in particular is interested in both (meaning they would want one of them, but would be happy with the other too), then the Agent can affectively make it so only one is reasonable to that team.  Much like owners can coordinate to make sure that a FA can only get a certain amount for his contract.

To me, there is a similarity there, but no rules against the Players colluding, just the owners.

I do understand collusion of owners is in the baseball agreement, but still seems like it is not a fair two-way street.

Clearly you don't have an appreciation for how the players have been kept down by the man, unable to feed their families and pay the bills....;)

Best part of that item, is that he never make even that much the rest of his career (collectively) after turning that deal offer down.

He hasn´t played since that season.  He had his yacht (¨Milwaukee´s Best¨) repoed recently.

So let me see if I have this straight, Agents and players can lie about who is interested in them and about the amount of money other teams are offering, but owners can not tell the truth about weather or not they are in the market for a player. All so a player can opt out of a 10 year 250 million dollar contact, because that just isn't enough money to keep his family in the style they have grown acustom to? NICE

"Union head Donald Fehr did not specify which reports concerned him but was clearly concerned a team's action might not be based solely on its own determinations."

If the owners would control themselves and not buy into the notion that one player can make a team they could control costs easily without colluding.

Read "A Well-Paid Slave" and you'll learn that that was the case for many years.

However, the pendulum has swung towards the players in an extreme way lately.  Clearly the system that allows the Yankees to buy their way into the playoffs year after year AND allows the Royals to stink it up year after year and still make money is flawed.  Do I have any better solutions? No, so I'll just shut up now.

But the owners are able to collude to screw the fan.  Just look at the price for tickets and food & drinks at a game.

But I agree, there is definately a double standard that is screwing the owners and not the players.

The players screwing the owners is paid for by the owners screwing the fans.  Thus the players are actually screwing the fans.  BudGirl might not mind so much; me, I have an irritation at the thought.

Is this more relating back to Brad since he is still a player, thus making it ok?

He's just making sure he fires all his cannons.  Owners need only leak their offers through some gullible sports reporter; like Boras does.

Collusion is tough to prove, especially when you get to the rarified air of A-Rod. There is a maximum that an owner can afford to pay a player. How much is A-Rod worth?

A hundred million more than Minute Maid?  Would Aramark get the concession contract on A-Rod?

MLB players are underpaid.  Look at how much the value of the Astros has increased from the time Drayton bought the team.  If he sold it today, he would make a healthy profit.  Is Drayton being kept down by the man?
