1986

The Sporting News has lined up a bunch of guys (including Curt Schilling and Doug Glanville) to replay the 1986 season using Strat-o-Matic. Could be interesting to some here:

Somewhat related... Steve Howe wanted to pitch for the Astros in Feb. 1986 "because they have a reputation around the league as being a "clean" team in terms of drug use." ?

Nice find.

1986 is on my short list of seasons to play in SOM.  In fact, I just had my cards from that year out the other day to look through.  It was the year I really fell in love with baseball (I was 15 at the time).  I always play the Astros and Indians and let the computer manage the rest of the teams, so that would definitely be a lot of fun.  This was long before I followed the Astros, and the Indians won 86 games marking the first time in my life (at least as I remember it) when they didn't suck.

If anyone cares, I'm only up to the end of May in my 1962 SOM project.  The Colts have won 5 straight and 9 of 10 to move their record to 22-23, good for 5th place but 13.5 games behind the Dodgers who are a blistering 37-11 (.771!).  Good news: the pitching has been excellent and the team ERA is 3.24, just a smidge behind the Reds for best in the league.  Bad news: the hitters suck, as the Colts are last in the league in batting average, runs, walks, stolen bases, slugging %, and OBP.

It's been a hoot, though.  Been thinking about doing another PBP here for an upcoming game like I did a few months ago; maybe after the WS is finished I'll get around to it.

That's pretty much the way that '62 Colt .45 club was. Decent pitching, poor hitting. In that era an E.R.A. in the 3's was not uncommon. Several pitchers would be in the 2's ERA wise. Colt Stadium was also a pitchers' park. You probably know all of this...some may not.
