Talks about his speaking engagements, "Christian definitions of manhood".  6-week sessions, one per week.

He agreed that Biggio "threw out the anchor" a couple times the year he had 56 doubles and no triples.

He has the entire city of Houston "buffaloed".  He's really a curmudgeon.

He drives through the city with a megaphone attached to his pickup yelling "Here comes the big puma."

He leaves his house on Halloween night so he doesn't have to answer the door.

"Why can't you just love me for me?", he asks John.

Carlos Lee "has to be pushing three bills", and "mauled Everett in left field" (but it was Adam's fault, like getting mauled in a bear pit at the zoo.)

"I'm in the catbird seat.  I got all the trump.  Say what you want, media of Houston."

I immediately regret this decision.

Don't feel bad. My old man wrote the foreward for the grumpy old man dictionary. He also set a world record for the number of times a person said "dagnabbit" in 10 minutes, 259.

Yep.  It went kinda of like this.

John and/or Lance Z:  Did Biggio ever get in your face for not running all out to first.
Berkman: What?
J and L: Repeat above slightly different
Berkman: He tried once, but I (Berkman) asked him about why he had so many doubles (threw the anchor out).  Said Biggio would argue with the ref about a homerun ball hitting the line so he would get a double instead of homer etc.
J and L: but he did yell at Pence!! for not running full out?
Berkman: No, because Pence always runs had on everything.  Then they started dogging Lee for his range.

It is always interesting when Berkman is on.

I doubt it.  Lance Berkman, Lance Zerlien and John Granato having a serious baseball conversation?  No way.

This is different from what T.J. said.  I thought that it was in reference to his 1998 campaign when he had 56 doubles and no triples because as he's been accused in here, he purposely stopped at second to establish a record.

Who you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?

(Hunter Pence) "[Wednesday], I hit a semi-pop fly and I got kind of lackadaisical and ran 75 percent, not 100 percent," Pence said. "If [the fielder] dropped it, I wouldn't have gotten to second. [Biggio] got on me. He said, 'If I ever see you do it again, that's not the way you play, me and you are going to have problems.'

"That woke me up. I can't get lackadaisical out there. I hit that pop fly and that's what I thought of. I was going to run as hard as I can every time and it just so happened that it fell in. Those are the kinds of things Craig Biggio does for a team."

Berkman was on the team for 34 games in 1999.

They talked about the record in 98 as well as 3000 when he tried to stretch a double.  Problem with trying to restate what those guys say, is that they are all over the place.  Seemed to me that Berkman was saying that Biggio had no right to tell anyone to hustle when he was himself was pulling up at second, for his own personal gains.

Does he believe in reintarnation?

It was.  One of their "old callers" (no idea who, they were getting calls from all of their old gang today) was specifically referring to the year he had no triples, and Berkman said something like "Oh yeah, of course he did." (purposely give up triples to run up the doubles number)  He may have really believed it, maybe not.  It was hard to tell because the whole thing was just John/Lance/Lance joking around for 30 minutes.

Lance (Zeirlein, not Berkman) did his spot-on Lima impersonation today too.  He told a story about Lima playing in a local beer league softball game in his full Astros gear.  I can't possibly give you the whole story, and it was mostly funny because of the impersonation, but it was pretty good stuff.

The year Biggio tied Tris Speaker was in 1998 too, so Berkman wasn't even on the team yet.  He was joking around, he wasn't even there.

Trying to stretch the single into a double is waaaaaay different than dropping anchor, which is what TJ said Berkman mentioned and ValpoCory said he suspected was true.  One speaks of hustle, the other speaks of jaking it to get a record, two diametrically opposed views.  In 1998, I highly doubt that Berkman was even aware of the hustle in Biggio's game (he was in AAA New Orleans that year) and no way did Biggio ever *purposely* stop running to third in order to get 56 doubles and tie Tris Speaker.

That had to be Berkman just being Berkman and nothing more than that.  It is not, IMHO, a hard held opinion about Biggio's performance in 1998 that anyone shares but a select few who also like grassy knoll sort of stuff.  Call it "being Oliver Stone".
