19 guys in the history of major league baseball have more hits than Craig Biggio.  That's pretty goddamn strong.

Yeah, but he didn't play all of his games at 2B, so Little Joe doesn't care.

With his combined 666 doubles and 414 stolen bases, he put himself in scoring position quite often. He will finish #13 in runs scored.

I know, several were steals of third, but you catch my drift.

That was true yesterday too.  I'm glad he's left Rickey in the dust today.  Rickey has to say 20 now.

I thought I was hearing some cynical undertones from him on Sunday night too. I thought he was pouting when they had the trivia about the 2nd most starts at 2nd by an Astro and he thought it was him.

Of course, according to Drayton McLane's speech at the August 12th Biggio Day, he was "in 20th place" on the all-time hit list back then.

Yep - Morgan went out of his way (again) to point out that Biggio should be considered an "athlete" rather than a second baseman, since he spent time at other positions.

Interestingly, Morgan saw a tiny bit of time in the OF while in Houston.

Pfft.  That just means that 19 underperforming guys hung on longer than Biggio has managed to do.  Everyone knows that this means nothing because every major leaguer would have 3,000 hits if they just bothered to stick around long enough.

and only four players in baseball history have hit more doubles than Biggio. For a guy that started out as a catcher, that might be his greatest stat.

I agree that #5 on the doubles list is his best one.  Hits and runs after that.

Anyone know what the stat Power/Speed Number at Baseball Reference refers to?

Biggio is listed #9 in history.

ETA: I found it, a Bill James stat.

Power/Speed Number = 2 (HR x SB) / HR + SB

Barry has almost lapped the field.

He seriously needs another double.  He could even stop at 2nd on a potential triple if he has to.

Balance of homers and steals. Was a curiousity stat when guys like HoJo were getting 30/30s back in the mid-to-late '80s.

Will he hit by three more pitches between now and Sunday? I doubt it.

Doesn't Rickey have to say 21 now and not 20?  I wouldn't put it past that ego to do a Mr. 3,000 reset to get HIS 20th place spot back, even if for just a few short years.

You weren't listening to Wagner (the composer, not Billy) or watching The Omen when you typed that, were you?

I seriously used to think I'd see him pulling up early at 2nd when he might have at least rounded the bag and considered the possibility of a three-bagger.  He was padding his doubles totals, no doubt.

Beautiful!  That song just joined Brad Ausmus' SAME AS ME remark as my newest, humorous haunting.

Nope.  This is true:

20 guys in the history of major league baseball have more hits than Rickey Henderson.

I follow ya'.  I was reading it from the standpoint of his standings and not the comparison to those ahead of him.  Better up my doseage....I'm STILL reading faster than I process.

That song still gives me the creeps.  In a good way, mind you.

There was another version of it on the soundtrack where Oldfield would introduce new instruments into the mix, one by one.  And he would announce them as they'd show up.  ". . .  an electric guitar. . . a slightly distorted electric guitar. . . "  A big hit at the time, on late night FM radio, anyway.  This was only possible, perhaps, in The Late Nineteen-Seventies.
