If you're not 100% certain Pigpen belongs in the Hall...

...Rob Neyer thinks you're an idiot. (insider)

Quote
I will argue, today and probably for many years, that Biggio is not only one of the 10 greatest second basemen in major league history, but one of the five or six greatest.

I'm reasonably confident in saying that Biggio was not as great as Morgan or Hornsby or Collins. He might not have been as great as Lajoie, and he was not, during his peak years, as great as Jackie Robinson during Robinson's peak years. Perhaps we might even find a place for the terribly underrated Roberto Alomar in this conversation.

I would not, on the other hand, be at all confident in saying that anybody else was greater than Biggio. I challenge anybody reading this to find another second baseman, somebody not mentioned in the paragraph just above this one, with a claim to being greater than Biggio. Frankly, I don't think you can do it. And if that's not a Hall of Famer, I'm a dump truck.

I'm pretty sure he's not a dump truck. Reasonably confident, anyway.

As strong as Morgan was, isn't part of his greatness the fact that he was quite literally surrounded by greatness?  Those red-legged bastards were just monsters for a decade or so.

Give me Biggio any day of the week. He's a gamer, not a whiner. Morgan is a fuckhead.

Did people not like Morgan when he was a player?  I only remember him on the 1980 Astros when he was my idol.    I can't remember anyone saying anything bad about him before he became a broadcaster.   In my mind he is a very similar player to Biggio, except he walked more, struck out less and stole more bases.  To me they were both players who did nothing but help their teams win.  But like I said I didn't follow baseball in the seventies, so if you know something I don't then please share.

Also, I don't think Biggio would make a very good broadcaster either.
