There's something very wrong when the Cubs look more solid defensively and have much greater firepower in their lineup.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Lance grounds one off the pitcher, who recovers and throws Lance out. Burke advances to 3rd.

Predictability ensues... Lee grounds out weakly to 3B, runner can't advance.  Mo strikes out swinging to end the inning.

Guesses on how long Woody can hold the lead?

///

Floyd pops out to the catcher; Woody escapes with his woody still intact.

He had a one-sided feud with Oswalt, that was notable mostly for it being kindling for the fire that was lit under the 2005 Astros late in that season.

Biggio now tied with some guy named Honus for 7th all-time doubles.

Burke bunts him to third.

I still think Biggio has lost bat speed, but he's the least of this offense's problems so far.

With Woody pitching this well, Lidge will never get in to pitch the 6th innings.... seems like what every inning they slot him for the team will find a way to make it unnecessary to pitch him then.

With Woody pitching this well, Lidge will never get in to pitch the 6th innings.... seems like what every inning they slot him for the team will find a way to make it unnecessary to pitch him then.

BBGs, Froback is sorry for this.

Williams is going to hit, I guess to bunt Q to 2nd.

It was a wild pitch that Q reached 1B on.

pick off attempt,
ball,
ball, (this always drives me nuts when guys try to give themselves up and the pitchers can't find the plate),
bunt foul,
More mound talking
Smash up the middle, slug bunt, totally fooled the scrubs!
Single, Q to 2B.

Double switch, brings in Wertz to pitch, and Ryan Theriot in at 2B for De Rosa.

Biggio batting with men on 1st and 2nd.

Biggio bunts them to 2nd and 3rd, and almost got a hit himself.

Swung on the first pitch, just foul along the 3B line, from the sound, I am not sure it was out of the infield.
Ball in the dirt, Barrett smothers well (still is an asshole)
Ball low
Strike looking, Lee lifted his arms, late late call, Lee has a comment for the Ump.  Not a bad pitch according to replay
Ball in the dirt, Barret makes another good stop (still an asshole)
ground out to SS.

Ball
Foul
Strike, called, Soriano was running, throw is high, and Soriano gets in under the tag.
bouncer to 2B, Biggio bare hands, bad throw to 1B, pops away from Berkman (bounced)
And Soriano was able to score on the crazyness.  Qualls and Biggio screws this lead away!

Woody isn't a bad hitter.

A bunt was probably what they were really trying for there, and Woody is good at that.

I don't know how much Garner was hoping to save the bench for later in the game/more critical situations.

Biggio should have held the ball. unbelievably stupid, useless throw.

great hustle play by Soriano.

Woody bunted one foul. then he faked a bunt and hit a single up the middle. he was up there to bunt. no reason to use a PH to do that.

c'mon, folks.

I am so fucking pissed missed the first 2 pitches, 1-1
Ball
Ball, low.  Fucking don't let him end the tie
Strike, right down the middle, offspeed froze Lee.
Fly ball to Lane, easy catch, ends the inning.

But not before shitting defense and relief pitching screws the lead away!

howry pitching.

Sorry I forgot to update the titles to indicate the inning change.  So that shit was in the bottom of the 7th.

Enbserg batting

Ball
Pop Foul, into the seats (thank God!)
Strike looking, outside corner (ok if the ball is in the zone, swing, if not, THEN take)
Fouled (back), (ok that is better, remember your good AB last time, do that again)
check swing, .... ball
Ball outside and low.  Full count
bouncer down the 3B line, past ErrorMiss, for a double.  Just down the line!

Let's get the lead back guys, huh?

Lane batting

Strike right down the shute, taken (ok, look, we get on Ensberg for taking too much, don't you start that shit too!)
Hammered foul
SWINGS and misses at high heater (ok, at least Ensberg takes shit like that!)

How come some of the season's best and worst ABs have come from the same guy?

Lane has had a good at-bat?

Luke Scott needs to be playing every day.  Jason Lane only adds to The Black Hole.

Wild pitch sends Mo to third... 2 strikes to AE though.

Everett

Smacked foul (I guess the hitters want to get back to the bench heater as quick as possible)
swings and misses (come on, hit a HR if you want to get back to fucking fast)
Sharp ground foul, 1B side.  (look, lead off doubles need to score 75% or more of the time, not 10%)
ball in the dirt, the asshole passed that one like the shit he is!  Ensberg moves to 3B.
Look out now, the infield is in! (according to Do-Ray)
Fouled back (oh now he is having a nice AB according to Do-Ray, it is 1-2 you smucks...)
ball, inside (fans didn't like that, means they have to sit in the freaking cold longer, before next beer run)
foul, (ok now you can say he is battling)
ball outside, full count...(This is the type of AB Garner is always talking about)
hit to deep left. HR EVERETT!!!!!

Biggio batting

Ball, low and inside (see he swings at the low and outside ones only)
Strike down the middle (of course, he normally turns on these)
Ball, outside
grounder to SS, for the final out, by half a step because Biggio does hustle.

ErrorMiss at the plate

Ball low and outside, (What the heck is this?!?!)
Ball, low (ok, this shit got Qualls in trouble, stop already!)
Ball, Low (ok, just cause you think the ump is squeezing you...)
Strike right down middle (so you CAN throw it there!)
Ball inside (oh crap!)

Floyd batting

Ball, low (6 pitches, 5 balls, bring in Lidge, at least he throws strikes... ones that get crushed, but at least the have to swing!)
Strike, outside corner (and there was much rejoicing)
Comebacker to Everett, steps on 2B, on the Berkman, DOUBLE PLAY!!!!

Asshole batting

Miller is loosening up

Ball, outside (at least he is consistent)
Strike looking, Q can't hold on to it.
Ball, low (I think it must be against some law to throw 2 in a row)
Strike, fired right in there
Ball, low (I guess so)
grounder, white fields, and throws the asshole out.  Broken bat.

Dear Continental:

You don't steal 2b on a wild pitch.

Thus, your ad implies that using continental.com is as easy as fucking your shit up.

Congratulations.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Did anyone put that broken bat "away" for him?

Dwub last hope for Cubs

I always rooted for him, in vain mostly, but I rooted for him.

Ball, low (offspeed)
ball, away (fastball)  (ok, take a min to collect your self, then get this last out!)
strike, right in there (Does Do-Ray have to sound so surprised with the strikes?)
lined right to Adam, for the final out!

SAVE for Wheeler!

She was getting picked on for cursing without descriptions of what was happening in the game.

"Holy Fuck!"

While those of us not able to watch the game are saying...

"Holy Fuck what?! Did Michael Barrett start spotting? Did RoyO bean him from the dugout? Did FlapJack and Daryl Ward have some form of collision and start a grease fire?"

From what I had read on the site I didn't think my language was out of line.  I didn't see an FAQ anywhere that stated the Game Zone was only for PBP.  Most of the comments I made were after someone else had already described the action.  On every other fan forum I've participated in, game threads were for chatting with other fans during the game and commenting on the action, not just for straight PBP.  That's what radio and GameDay are for.  If the rules of this place are different, a friendly heads-up would have been appreciated.  I "slunk off" because it became clear my presence was not appreciated here and frankly I wasn't having any fun, which I thought was the point.  So I decided to just stick to watching the game.

Again, you weren't getting razzed for cussing, you were getting razzed for not providing descriptions of what was happening to cause you to cuss.

All I had today was gameday MLB.com stuff which was a batter and a half behind most of the day, and its frustrating to read two or three "WOW!"s before getting a description of the play, if you get one at all.

Myself, Jane, and Limey were all commenting on that. The old man heckling you for cussing is his own thing. I won't pretend to speak for him, despite any family resemblance.

P.S. Having thin skin is a quick way to not enjoy this place. Not pointing any fingers, just saying.

That is my fault Amy, I take full responsibility for that.  I posted a primer for GameZone and somehow it is now not on here.  I think I may of deleted it inadvertently or it did not make it over with our recent migration from our old webhost and software.  You're a victim of circumstance and it's entirely on me.

Stick around, you're a fun read to me.

But just to be clear, GameZone is used by many to get game updates because we found that some of the Gameday provided by outlets like MLB or ESPN or Sportsline really suck.  So we do this for ourselves, with the knowledge that someone (anyone) has to provide the PBP or else it becomes useless to have this place.  Not one person usually does the entire game PBP, that would be impossible.  Also, if one person is already doing the PBP, then it is appropriate to back away from another PBP and just provide commentary, as you were doing.

In fact, that is what I thought your were doing... just providing commentary, no different than what Alkie or anyone else does.  Some regulars hate to provide PBP (again, I'm looking at you Alkie), just like to provide a cyber version of being at a sports bar with friends and allowing for the occasional "Aw fuck!" commentary you would get in such occasions.

I think many here misunderstood you as providing the PBP and thus were asking for details beyond "Gee, fucking shit... look at that!"  And that is not your fault, you were in here with a bunch of new folks who forgot or did not know that the regulars are used to a running PBP and since others and yourself arrived first, they thought that was what you were providing.  Froback's PBP is a prime example of what is the norm for PBP.  What you provided is the norm for color commentary.

Maybe next time someone can just ask if PBP is being provided, so you and other new folks can just say "no, go for it!".

Welcome aboard!

Well, not really.  I just wanted a little more description of the game than F this and Oh Sheite, since I could neither listen to or see the game.  It kinda took on a life of its own after my initial comments.
