More Clemens Speculation
« on: January 02, 2007, 11:04:21 am »
The Link has the usual stuff on Randy Johnson being shopped to the Dbacks, Padres, Dodgers, Bingo Long All-Stars, etc.  XM added this morning that it is "well known" that Johnson and Clemens "do not like each other" and Johnson's departure would pave the way for Clemens to join New York.  Also, the Yankees supposedly are asking that Clemens pitch a longer season.

FWIW.  I have no idea what purpose it would serve Arizona to acquire Johnson, other than the honor of being the first team in '07 to help out the Yankees.

Assuming Johnson's healthy I think he's still a good pitcher.  If Arizona got him back he would be at worst their third best starter, and he may be better than Davis.

Dude, come on, it's THE Big Unit!  If all you are going to do is bring up facts about recent performance no one will want to talk to you anyway!

And assuming Bagwell's shoulder gets better, he could come out of retirement.

You know you can't compare those two.

Just so we're all clear, Randy Johnson is coming off surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.  That's not a good thing for a pitcher.  As a matter of fact, that is a decidedly bad thing for a pitcher, let alone anyone else.

Especially not a pitcher who's back is 8 feet long.

I think we're perfectly clear except for how badly it affects pitchers post-surgery.  Didn't Ben Sheets come back from the same thing last year and hasn't Johnson himself had this done once before?  I'm not completely sure of that, but if it's true than there's no comparison between his and Bagwell's injury.
I also realize he's in his 40's and the likelyhood of the surgery being as successful isn't high.

Quite the opposite.  Does the word "chronic" mean anything to you?

Okay, now I'm confused.  So, you are saying he's a worthwhile addition, if healthy.  Yet, just a few posts later, you acknowledge that the probability of him being healthy is not very high?  If that's the case, why would it be smart for a team to help the Yankees out of another Kevin Brown situation?  Seriously, where's the pro to this con?

Sure.  But it doesn't apply here.  The last time he had the surgery was 10 years ago.  And it's not the same disc.

Didn't mean to give that impression.  I personally think he will be healthy and have a good year.  I was just acknowledging the possibility that he won't and the fact that he's 43.

No? in Austin

My understanding is that the Snakes aren't really looking at Johnson as an acquistion to help them win ballgames, although he may do that.  They're looking at him as the team marquee draw, as in the snowbirds in Aree-zon-ah aren't smart enough to follow baseball for the value of a young team that will muddle their way through a season.

They need a marquee player to keep the masses coming to the ballpark.  Are they wrong about their own fanbase?  I dunno, I have a feeling that they're not.  So they need RJ for the marketability moreso than the pitchability as it were.

Anything above marketability is gravy.  So I don't blame them for dealing with the Evil Empire in that case.  One, however, wonders why the Padres are interested in making a deal.  They've already gone the route of picking up castoff Boomer Wells from the northeast, why Johnson?  Are they kidding themselves?

Randy Johnson's back is as fucked up as a redneck's homemade bar of soap.  He needs to find a better supplier of roids and HGH, and given the Jason Grimsley issue, I'm not sure Phoenix is a good place to go for either.

Fuck the Yankees.  I'd give my left nut to face the Yankees in the World Series, with injuries and a long NLCS forcing us to go with Sampson and Albers in games 1 and 2 versus Clemens and Pettitte, only for the kids to stick it right up their fucking asses!!!!

Team Racket can tongue my bag till it hangs ands sags.
You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?
