Also, Schmidt is asking for $15/year over 3-4 years.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a very obvious SIGN HIM!?
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

The agent also said that Barry Bonds would much rather stay in San Francisco than sign with Oakland. "He doesn't want to drive across the Bay, he doesn't want to play in a dilapidated stadium, and  he doesn't want to wear the white shoes ," the agent said.

It's nice that Barry continues to maintain his grounded and humble perspective regarding his role in baseball's universe. What team wouldn't want him?

Well, I did clarify $15M /per year ...but I guess it's still a little confusing.  Essentially, you'd have to pay Schmidt somewhere in between $45-60M to sign with your team.

Yah, like the man said, SIGN HIM.

Oh, I know you meant 15 per.  I'm saying, when you have a chance to sign one of the best 10 (maybe 20, counting is hard) starters in the majors for 15 per and "only" 4 years, doitdoitdoitdoit.

I'm with you. If I were a GM -- and I'm aware that there are literally hundreds of reasons why I'm not -- the negotiations would be roughly:

AGENT: My client is interested in a 3 year, $45 million deal.

ME: (Eyes bulge out obviously, swallow coffee down windpipe, try to stifle coughing and sputtering, poker face ruined, frantically gathering paper work and scribbling figures onto contract)

AGENT: I mean... 4 years, $60 million.

ME: (Diving across desk with contract)

AGENT: ...and a small ranch outside of town.

ME: (Calling real estate agent)
