His name came up on another thread which has me thinking how close is he to being ready?  I had assumed him to be a possible mid-2007 call up.

Hunter or Howard? Howard is the Astors sooper #1 prospect who should be promoted when everyone else is FIRED tho nobody knows who he is.

BTW, I'm not qualified to answer your question, but my guess would be that Pence will be at the big league ST with an outside shot at making the initial 25. However, he most likely will start the 2007 season in RR, and at some point during the season, he will get a shot with the Astros.

Yours is as good a guess as any.  He'll be added to the 40-man roster this winter.  With that is an automatic invite to major league ST.  How he does there will determine whether Garner wants him on the 25-man to start the season. Smart money today has him in RR in April though.  Of course any callup after that would be determined by need.

A quick glance gave me these names.  I may have missed 1 or 2.  Lots are eligible but not worth it.

These are names of note.  Not all will be protected: Pence, Jordan Parraz, Lou Santangelo, Johnny Ash, Chad Reineke, JR Towles, Brad James.
