the other night they were showing the 3 team race for the wild card assuming Padres held the West lead:

Dodgers -
Phillies 1/2
Reds 5 1/2 back with a record of 75-78.

Astros record that day?  75-78.

As of this morning their "Hunt for October" listed 5 teams in the wild card hunt, NONE of them the Astros, who have been third for two days now.

Excellent.

Everything is going exactly as planned.

In a similar vein, I like that NO ONE thinks we have a chance to win the division.

It seems to be working, is it not?

I've said this for the 8 years you've known me.  If I'm wrong, but it helps the team, I'm for it.

I actually enjoyed Morgan's explanation last night of how he didn't think the Astros would make the playoffs, even if they swept the Jakes.

Oh, the half game in the loss column BS.

Insurmountable.

I NEVER understood this argument.

We all play 162 games (or will if it's close and the Cards have to make up that game against the Jints).  In the end, you have to have MORE WINS and FEWER LOSSES than everyone behind you to win a division.  How does one more game in the "loss column" right now affect a goddamn thing???

Weren't you listening? You can't make up games in the loss column... Whatever the fuck that means.

Now you're just whining for whining sake. Of course an extra game in the loss column means something compared to an extra game in the win column.

Example - The Cardinals are a half-game up on the Astros. There are two ways for this to happen - either the Cardinals have an extra win, or the Astros have an extra loss.

In the case of the Cardinals extra win, all the Astros have to do is win the one remaining game to catch the Cardinals to tie. Destiny in the Astros hands.

In the case of the Astros extra loss, the Astros have to depend on the Cardinals losing their one remaining game to tie.
Destiny in the Cardinals hands.

I means that if you're behind in the loss column, it's out of your control.  A game in the win column you can make up by winning yourself.  A game in the loss column, you have to rely on the other team to lose to make it up.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

You guys are insane.  We need more wins and fewer losses than the Cardinals.  WHEN those losses and wins happen(ed) is irrelevant.

Hoping the Astros win an "extra game" now is no fucking different than hoping the Cardinals lose an "extra game" now.

Same same.  And if we don't like it, we should have not lost two goddamn games at home to the fucking Royals.

Did you hear Morgan last night wonder aloud why the Astros did not bring up Koby Clemens--couldn't understand why they missed such a wonderful opportunity.  I guess the chance of him being on the field with Roger trumps both a pennant race and the kid getting his clock cleaned by big league pitching.  Oh, Houston could surely use another third baseman, too.

We're insane? From the guy who puts up a contrarian tote board, and you're arguing this?

Hoping the Astros win is wildly different than hoping the Cardinals lose.

Means. Ends.  They aren't the same thing.

After the Phillies beat Houston in the first game in Houston last week, Linda Cohn declared on Sportcenter that "the Phillies have beaten the Astros 12 straight times".

C'mon, everybody knows Koby could catch his dad, and everybody knows that the Astros need a bat behind the plate...

I was so wound up by the evening's events, I actually watched BBTN.  Watching One-Ball stumble through an explanation as to why the Astros are now winning (including a classic where he forgot a player's name - nice prep!) was hilarious.

Any other day, and I would've been loading a 12-gauge and pointing it at the screen.  God, those pudnits are dreadful!
