Cubs, Rockies and Hooks
« on: September 07, 2006, 01:58:50 pm »
I get to do some business and vacation travelling for the next 6 weeks, which will take me to Chicago, Denver and Corpus. Figured I may as well take in some baseball while I'm out there. It might partially make up for the fact that this will be the first year I have not been to a single Astros game, since 1995

So I'm looking for recommendations on:

1. Where to sit at Wrigley for the Reds game next Saturday (16th) so that I'm not facing the sun for a 5pm start
2. A smart way to navigate between Wrigley and O'Hare (I'll be sans car)
3. Where to sit at Coors Field for the Giants game there on Monday the 18th (6:35pm start), as well as a place to take in dinner before/after. I'll have a car in Denver... what's the parking like around there?

Also, how smart is it to wait and get walk-up tickets at either place? Would I be better off ordering online and going willcall?

Anyone know whether the AA playoffs will (still) be ongoing by September 24th? I'd LOVE to take in a Hooks game, if possible, since I'm going to be in Corpus for a month.

Thanks all.

Sit on the first base/right field line.  (Scalp a ticket)  Take the O'Hare blueline el to Addison.  Than take a Addison bus(they come all the time) east to Wrigley. Be sure to buy a cta train card.  You will be able to buy it right at the O'Hare station.  5 bucks should cover the ride to and from.

Coors Field has a lot of great parking around the field.  The "official" parking lots are on the northeast side of the field off of Park Ave.  $5 for the far out lot, $10 for the somewhat closer in lot.  There are also various and sundry people hawking parking for various rates all around the field.  I've found the Park Ave parking lots to be easy out access to I-25 after the game.

As to eating around there, can't help you.  I always eat down here in the Springs before heading up.  I've heard there are some good resturants in LoDo near the park but I can't vouch for them personally.

Thanks Nate! LoDo is between Coors and the airport, right? Should be able to trawl and come up with something How about good places to sit? Or more importantly, any seats to avoid?

Half of Colorado, including LoDo, is between Coors and DIA.

I haven't found a bad place to sit in Coors Field except maybe the cheap Rockpile tickets way out in center field.  I've sat upper deck, club level and box level and wandered all over the field and honestly I don't think there is a bad seat in the house.  It really is one of my favorite ball parks.

The airport is WAY out in west Kansas.  LoDo is the general area right around Coors Field and toward downtown, which is only a couple miles away.

I went to a Rockies game against the Giants in '03. Got there early and took my seat in the Upper Tank in right, waiting for BP. Looking down at the field, I was thinking... no WAY a ball gets way up here.

Crack! Bonds hit one over my head. I couldn't believe it.

Ah. Giants are who I'd see in town, then. I think I know where I'll try to sit, then

As for way out in West Kansas... pshaw. Mapquest is telling me it's a 25 mile drive. That's less than my work commute, heh. Thanks for all the info, folks!

There's at least a skadillion brewpubs near Coors Field and you can't go wrong with the beer and the food is at least decent.

I was just in Chicago a couple of months ago and I could swear that the Addison stop on the blue line is about two blocks away from Wrigley.  It's an easy walk.  Be sure to go out on the small promenade on the second level back towards the tracks sometime during the game for a great view of the skyline.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

The Wrigley stop on the El is on the Red Line. You can get to the Red Line from the inbound Blue Line downtown (at Washington I believe).

I was thinking about what CSF said, and I'm sure that coming from ORD it's faster to get off the Blue Line at Addison and take a bus east to the park.
