Buster Olney: (2:54 PM ET ) Greg: I think J.P.'s big focus in making a trade, if he did decide to trade Wells, would be in making the best deal possible, and he wouldn't worry about who the trading partner would be. That's how he thinks... He'd just want to do what he could to get better. (I'm musing here, pure speculation, but what about Crisp and Lester and another prospect for Wells...?)

So... how about Taveras, Albers, and an A guy?

Also, he mentions that the Yankees will "probably" field offers for ARod, who would cost a new team $14M per year.  Ensberg, Lidge, and ? for ARod.

Then you're looking at:

2b Biggio/Burke
LF Scott
1b Berkman
3b ARod
CF Wells
RF Huff/Lane (depending on Huff's contract)
SS Everett
C  Ausmus

Ummm... yeah, I'd like that.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Umm... I may be dumberer than the next guy but if you get A-Rod, you move him back to SS.  I realize it's been a while but he's still the best defensive SS on the Yankees.
I'd leave Huff at 3B and say goodbye to Everett.  Don't get me wrong, I like Everett, but A-Rod gives you solid defense at SS and stellar offense.

Several assumptions:

a.  Everett is a better defensive SS than ARod.
b.  The Yankees have no reason to take Everett in trade.
c.  The YAnkees WOULD have reason to take MoBerg.

4.  ARod is a better 3B when he's playing next to Everett instead of Jeter.
My heart bleeds for your fantasy team.

Speculation layered upon speculation, but yes, I do like that lineup.  The real question is, why would anyone want to trade Vernon Wells (or A-Rod?)

I don't know about the Vernon Wells situation, but the A-Rod thing seems like pure media hype mixed with idiot Yankee fans.

Right. The yanks management is not as stupid as its fans.  They know they won't find anyone this offseason to replace Arods production at 3B.  However, if the boo-birds get to ARod and he wants to change scenery after a playoff tanking, then.....

he would probably be the biggest nancy in the league, but I'd still take him off their hands

I'd rather give them Buchholz than Albers, but you do what you can.

Does A-Rod still sleep with Satan.  If so what are the odds Satan demands A-Rod be dealt after 1 season in Houston?

Zero.  ARod has a blanket no-trade, and so would have to waive that to come here in the first place.

For what it's worth, concerning Rodriguez,

"New York's stuck with him and he's stuck with New York," former Yankee great Reggie Jackson said. "He's not going to get traded and he's not going to go anywhere. We're stuck with each other."  Jackson, a special adviser to owner George Steinbrenner... The Link

In that case, if he's ready in April and a deal is made for Wells, I'd be inclined to give Pence a shot at RF for 2007.
