I'm not meterologist, but how is a map showing wind speed across the western hemisphere gonna fuck with your trip to New Braunfels?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That looks like a pinball game.

It's possible, at this point, and that's about all anyone can say. It also could just make for a rainy day in Belize.

Here's the latest  update for TD5.There's lots of fancy words and mumbo jumbo. I have no idea if the term "favorable" means more of less likely to develop into a hurricane, but I assume it means more likely (kind of like how you hope to hear negative results when you go to the doctor).

No kidding; he had Rita pegged on the Sabine Pass area while everyone else was saying Galveston.

This is showing landfall south of Galveston on Wednesday, although I can't figure out the intensity factor.

If I was in New Orleans, I think I'd get the hell out now.  But I do hope it brings some rain to Central Texas.

It has a name:  Ernesto.

Expected to be a hurricane, if at all, on Monday.

Well, I'll be able to give you suckers a 1st hand view of it soon enough.

I'm IN Cayman where it's all everyone is talking about, but not one person is worried about it.

It's kind of weird.

Once we get an idea of what the storm is like, I'll post updates.

Starting to get windy here.  They're saying 40-60 mph winds by tomorrow afternoon and the projections seem to have it aimed toward Texas by mid-week or so.

It's getting annoying enough here that we're flying out today now (a day early).

Stupid fucking nature.

Sorry to show up late to the party.  I did not see this thread when I started the other.  Take a peek there if you want my thoughts.
The Link
Andy's link is a good source if you know what you are looking at.  To answer Phil, orange trending to red and lots of rings on the bullseye are bad.  At 140+ hours out (last few frames of the loop) the forecast is not very viable but, combined with forecaster input, can give some sense of greater probabilities.

To comment on Alkie's comments, the projections are based on data available at the time.  This far out, there is not good resolution on the data sets so errant or missing data greatly affect the projections.  48 hours from now will be much more telling.

Edited to add, if you (the collective you) were going to consider any one source as this event (or any similar event) unfolds, you should look here:
The Link
It's a bit dry but gives the best view into what the real experts are thinking as they consider all data sources.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

As I mentioned in das' thread, the latest prediction on strength on landfall is category 3, with time of landfall being Thursday, possibly Friday.

Where it might hit land is still anybody's guess though.  Anywhere between Florida and Louisiana.  I'd start planning a roadie if you live along the coast basically.
