How could it be more profitable to tear the building down and build god knows what in its place (a train-themed restaurant?) rather than pull the asbestos out of that mofo and turn it into condominiums?

You'd like to think that they'd have to take the asbestos out before they bring it down.  Especially when you consider that asbetos isn't dangerous until its dust gets into the air.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Plaintiff's attorney lobby would have a COW if the asbestos were removed first.

You never know until you've had an engineer or architect take a look at it and tell you what shape it's in and how much has to be done to it to get it into better shape. I'm sure if saving the original building were cheaper, the developer would do that both to save money as well as to have the attraction of the vintage architecture.
