Yesterday on Baltimore sports radio...
« on: August 01, 2006, 08:54:28 am »
One guy on the radio yesterday said: "OZ-walt only pitches every fifth day, so there's no way we should give up Tejada to get him." For one thing, they were also getting a starting 3B and SS or CF from Houston in the deal, which I think was overpaying. For another, Houston has come within one game of reaching the World Series two years in a row with Oswalt and without Tejada. The Orioles haven't come within HDTV of the Series.

I listened to caller after caller (not to mention the nutty host of the show who was in her first day on the job) say that Oswalt wasn't enough in a trade for Tejada.

I guess they'd rather just keep running Bruce Chen or Rodrigo Lopez or Russ Ortiz out there and hope "Miggy" drives in 8 runs a game.

Which proves that sports talk radio is as universaly stupid as talk radio. You have to listen for an hour to get 3 seconds of useful information... and thats from the Ben-a-Fiber spot.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Not all "sports talk radio" is that way.  There's a guy here in ATL that is great.  Chris Dimino with 790theZone.  I believe the station is on the web...he's on 10-12noon...then sprinkled in here and there.  He also does a show called "Hardball" before every Braves home game, and it's very, very good.  He goes through both leagues, you know, pitching matchups, stats that you need to know for a series or game...and then he usually has an interview.  He's done tons of HOF'ers and most of his guests usually brag about the homework he's done, which stems from the great questions he asks.  I'm telling you, and anyone else that'll listen...if you like baseball (not just the Astros, but around the league and info on the history of the game)...try to listen into "Hardball" which starts an hour before every Braves home game.  If I get time...I'll look for a link to listen from the Web.
