Pettitte Joins Roy at the Bitchin' Post

"We played the Royals," Pettitte said. "They came in and took two out of three. These are big-league teams. If you don't pitch well and you don't swing the bat well, if you don't hit with guys in scoring position, you don't do the little things, you don't get guys in from third and less than one out, you're going to have problems winning ballgames. We are just not clicking at all on any cylinders. Hopefully, we can get going."

News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

right now one cylinder would be nice on a cosistent basis. this is something seemingly out of character for the astros to speak out like this. maybe enought shame will cause a jump start

He's not bitching.  He's being honest.

Don't you know that pitchers are supposed to throw shut-outs every game?
Lighten up, Francis.

I'm glad players are speaking out and not holding their feelings inside.  I'd hate to see the anger boil over and have an incident like Julian Tavarez picking a fight with a concrete wall, or a player kicking coolers, or a player going WWF smackdown style on Cameramen.

Because using the press to express your feelings is always the right thing to do?

Of course not.  But Pettitte's comments, in my opinion, were spot on.  He said we're not doing anything right.  He said we're not hitting or pitching.  Fairly innocuous, I think.

Did I say anything about Pettitte's comments?

Have you ever played team sports?  The bitching by the Astros pitchers is bush league at best.  At worst, it is indicative of a team that is 1) in turmoil (duh) and 2) that's players are not being well led.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

No, you merely posted a response in a thread devoted to Andy Pettitte. Silly me.

Yeah.  I played a lot.  And if you think Andy is bitching, I disagree.

That's the one of the dumbest posts I have ever seen.

Not a mention of Pettitte (or Oswalt) even though you say this thread is "devoted to" Andy Pettitte

Still no mention of Pettitte.

I read your post as questioning Pettitte's use of the press to express his feelings. Was that an incorrect reading?

As I said- my comment was on this post (which I quoted in the original):

How hard is it to see that I was responding to a post that pretty much said players should speak out to the press in order to keep from fighting in the clubhouse.

I made no mention about Pettitte's comments, only the comments of the poster.

That's why I was asking. It wasn't clear to me. No need to get bent out of shape about it.

Exactly. Pettitte's comments were the main topic here. I also did not see them as innapropriate bitching. The post that you- CJM- were responding to was refering to Pettitte's comments, and also alluded to Roy's.

Not always, but I imagine it's hard to resist making comments when you have several microphones pasted in your face after every game.

There's also some very good unscripted moments. Having said that, I believe it more professional if a player addresses the team in-house as opposed to taking gripes to the media.

The player, who may mean well, often brings unwanted friction to the clubhouse.
